It's no secret that our world centers around food. Of course, we need food to survive, but it also acts as a foundation for much of the social aspect of our lives. Through sharing a meal, we create memories, we connect, and relate to one another.
Of course, not all experiences with food are necessarily good. And no one knows this better than a picky eater.
As a self-proclaimed picky eater, I can attest first hand to the amount of judgement, annoyance, and even disdain we receive on a daily basis. Its not fault our taste buds simply weren't wired to enjoy all that the world of food has to offer us.
It's a cruel, cruel world for all the picky eaters out there. Here are some everyday struggles that all picky eaters will be more than familiar with.
1. Feeling silently judged for ordering one of the few foods you know will never let you down time and time again.
Why mess with perfection?
2. Your eating habits haven't changed much since you were a kid.
Kraft Mac and Cheese will always be delicious, okay?
3. Having a few "safe" foods you stick by.
That most likely are made of bread and cheese.
4. Which is why, if you could, you would eat pizza every day.
Because pizza will never let you down.
5. Family dinners turn into lectures about your eating habits.
"When I was your age, I was happy just to have food on my plate."
6. Being all too familiar with this question: "Why don't you just TRY it?"
HOW ABOUT NO.
7. Going out to a new place is more of a nerve-wracking experience than an exciting one.
Can I read the menu before, please?
8. Preparing yourself for the embarrassment of placing your order.
"Can I have a burger with just cheese on it? No lettuce, tomato, mayo, bacon. Nothing else. No really, I'm good."
9. Asking for sauce on the side, always.
Better safe than sorry.
10. Secretly hating fancy, upscale restaurants.
If I can't pronounce it, you can be sure as hell I won't eat it.
11. On the other hand, your're a not-so-secret sucker for chain restaurants.
Because you know what to expect. And you may be guilty of ordering the same thing every single time.
12. Trying hard to hide your expression when eating something disgusting...
...but failing miserably every time.
13. Speaking of disgusting, you can't understand how some people actually "like" salad.
It may be one of life's greatest mysteries.
14. From time to time, you feel some guilt about your eating habits.
I should probably start eating more of those things they call "vegetables," right?
15. You know you being picky sucks, but you can't help it.
Your taste buds are the ones to blame.
