15 RA Moments As Described By Seinfeld
The Huffington Post

Seinfeld is a show about nothing, yet your new job as an RA is far from nothing.

As an RA at UMaine Orono, it's a constant effort to make sure your residents are safe and connected to the floor and the university. You're also doing a lot of callbacks, check-ins, power weekends, and the ever-present incident reports. This list of Seinfeld moments will definitely be your guide of relatable moments.

1. When you're trying not to copy your co-RA's program but need to make the deadline:

There are some similar programs you and someone on your staff will have, but it's best not to make it seem that way. Kramer's moment here sums it up perfectly so you're not trying to do the same Harry Potter pizza program.

2. When you're secondary on duty and fall asleep in between rounds:

Good thing you can hang out in your room when you're on secondary (and there's no red light outside your dorm).

3. When you're off for the weekend but a resident needs to talk:

Don't try and immediately ignore them, but at least remind them you're off.

4. That one resident at 1 a.m. who asks for a lockout and you look through the hole of your door

THIS WILL DEFINITELY HAPPEN.

5. When you're waiting for the elevator and hear some residents talk bad about being an RA as if trying to insult you:

Obviously, you'll have to ignore this chatter, plus it's not like it's your fault they got in trouble last weekend.

6. When you're at an RA conference and they try to get you to open up about your experience:

7. When you and your Co-RA are running out of program ideas and go to your last resort:

8. When a co-RA asks if you can take their duty night but you say you're busy that night doing 'homework':

Occasionally they'll ask the day of, and it's okay! If you can't do it that night, someone else on staff probably can!

9. Resident: "Hey, wanna go to a party?" *Doesn't know you're an RA*

You:

It's the first couple weeks of school, so your residents haven't fully comprehended the fact that you're there as a reference and a guide to different things on campus. Just don't completely freak out like Kramer does.

10. When you're off-campus at a restaurant and see a resident eating with their parents:

That resident has probably been caught drinking underage or smoking on campus or even having approximately eight lockouts one semester alone. You play it cool like George.

11. When no one shows up at your program so you're all alone in the common room doing this:

Your idea for a cool program looked great on paper, but none of your residents seemed to care. You'll get it next time, even if it's just a pizza program (refer to Number 7 on this list).

12. When you have the weekend off and get ready to go out with your friends:

You're free to do whatever you want with your weekend off...as long as it's legal. Definitely do the most out of your time off!

13. When it's the end of the year banquet and your staff get all dressed up:

The event of the year! Awards, special tributes, and more are given at this event, so it's appropriate to dress up for it!

14. When Finals Week is closing in, residents are louder than usual, and it looks like the end of the world:

Do I have to explain this one? (Pssh, good luck. You got this.)

15. When all the residents are moved out and your staff celebrates:

FREEDOM!!! The year is finally over! You've done so much as an RA, and the experience itself has been rewarding. Congratulations to RAs throughout the country who have the same kind of moment like the lovable gang of Seinfeld have!

This list was made to guide, remind, and even inspire you to be a better RA to thus being a better person. Be a role model, and not an anti-dentite.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
