15 Questions I Have For Otterbein University
Otterbein University

We're a fairly small school here in Westerville, OH. But for such a small school, there are a lot of questions on student's minds regarding happenings at Otterbein. Here are a sampling of those FAQ's and maybe we can get some answers down the road.

1. Why can't we have a parking garage? Or if you're not going to build one, why can't we at least re-arrange the parking lots to coordinate better with student's living arrangements?

2. Why can't the Rave Alert emails come as soon as we need them to? And why can't they be labeled properly?

3. Why does the cafeteria food have a lack of options? What if it makes us sick? Then what the heck are we supposed to do with all our leftover meal swipes?

4. Also, why can't we choose the amount of meals that we can have? And why can't we add on more cardinal dollars...why do you have to call it munch money?

5. Why do we have to have so many school support buildings? We have the CCPD, the CSS and the CSI. Why can't they at least have a little more variety in the names so people aren't confused 24/7?

6. Can we please have an otter as our unofficial (but more official than the cardinal) mascot? Have you seen how cute they are?

7. Why don't Nursing majors have to take a language credit but Science, Math, and Humanities do? Aren't nurses going to come into more contact with a variety of people than say, an engineer?

8. Why do we call it Spring Semester if we start going back to school in January? Can't we call it Winter Semester or Winter Quarter or Winter Period and then when it's finally springtime we can go back to using Spring _____?

9. Why did we get rid of the quarter system anyway?

10. Why can't those "Are you graduating soon?" emails come only during the year we're actually going to graduate?

11. Why can't we have hour and a half classes or 2 one hour classes instead of hour and 10 mins or hour and 45 minute ones? And don't even get me started on those 3 and a half hour evening courses.

12. Why can't we opt out of taking an INST class?

13. Why can't everyone keep their keys over the breaks instead of just the people in the apartments?

14. Why did the name keep changing from Otterbein University to Otterbein College then backto Otterbein University? And is it going to change again?

15. Why can't more stores/restaurants in Westerville offer us student discounts or use of our cardinal cards like other campuses do?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
