In the past, I have been passionately anti-electronic music. While I love getting pumped up, I feel like an idiot singing the beats and the bass-dropping. However, remixes provide the best of both worlds. They combine the beats that get us going on the weekends with the lyrics we grew up loving. Check out the following 14 songs for your next pregame or workout. The best part about them is: you’ll be able to sing along, and who doesn’t like a good singalong?
1. Blink-182 - "I Miss You" (You Friends Remix)
It is already exciting enough when the person controlling the music puts on a teen-angst jam at a party. Whether it's Blink-182, Sum 41, Good Charlotte, or PANIC!, you make eye-contact with the DJ, establishing that they understand you on a deeper level. This remix elicits that same appreciation and more.
2. Tobtok - "Fast Car" ft. River
This remix takes a beloved slower song and amps it up a bit. Originally released in 1988, this song will really bring you back. Some of your friends might not entirely understand why or how they know all the lyrics, but they will love it regardless.
3. Jason Mraz - "I’m Yours" (Hambleton Remix)
If you haven’t heard “I’m Yours” enough already in your life, here’s a remix! Every single human on this Earth knows the words to this one so throw it on at a party and surprise your friends with the new and improved version.
4. Fetty Wap - "Trap Queen" (KYFRA Remix)
I cannot recall the last party I was at where "Trap Queen" wasn’t played. It has pretty much become a staple of most college gatherings. While it’s definitely a crowd favorite, it’s starting to lose its surprise value. That’s why you need to hit your friends with this -- still the lyrics they love...with a twist!
5. Jackson 5 - "ABC" (Sigala Easy Love Remix)
This remix is growing in popularity, and I could not be happier about it. Who could possibly hate on a remix of a Jackson 5 song? Not sure this one will ever get old.
6. Wiz Khalifa - "Young Wild & Free" (Konglomerate Refix)
This song is more than a remix; it’s a refix (I had to Urban Dictionary that one). Basically, this song takes "Young, Wild, and Free" and brings it to the beach. It is definitely one that you will need to whip out on spring break with a pina colada in hand.
7. The Jackson 5 - "I Want You Back" (Shaparder & LRX Remix)
So if you do ever get sick of "Easy Love," not to fear! Here we have a remix of "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5. This song will get the guys, girls, and parents out on the dance floor.
8. The Fray - "How To Save a Life" (Jiggers Remix)
Before hearing this, I most likely would have put "How to Save a Life" on a list of songs that could never possibly be remixed. Well it happened, and it’s good. It’s really good. Give this one a listen just out of the hilarity that it's The Fray.
9. Whitney Houston - "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" (Halogen Remix)
For those of us with friends that constantly demand oldies, this remix is the best compromise. It will keep the rest of the party feeling good while accommodating those friends that think they sound like Whitney Houston when intoxicated.
10. John Mayer - "Free Fallin’" (Koni Remix)
I think we are all looking for an excuse to listen to more John Mayer. This remix is that excuse. Everyone in the room will appreciate a remix they can dance to while simultaneously singing an old favorite.
11. Bill Withers - "Ain’t No Sunshine" (Lido Remix)
This remix basically transforms this song. The original version of "Ain’t No Sunshine" is nearly 45 years old, but this version turns it into a modern-day rap. Check it out.
12. A-Ha - "Take On Me" (Kygo Remix)
If you in fact have not known any of the above lyrics, then this one is for you. All you need to know is three words: take on me. This remix takes that '80s classic and brings it back with even more life.
13. Vance Joy - "Riptide" (FlicFlac Edit)
Despite all the other versions you may have heard of this song, you still have to give this one a shot! It really changes around the arrangement, and it adds in some whistles which are always fun (if you can whistle that is).
14. One Direction - "Perfect" (Matoma Remix)
One Direction is definitely a hit-or-miss band. Half of the people in the room will love you eternally if you put on a 1D jam while others will be questioning their friendship with you. This remix will go over positively with both groups of people.
Grab the AUX cord at the next party you're at and put on one of these jams. You can even take credit for finding them! (That's what I've been doing this whole article!) Seriously though, thanks to my brother for actually finding these gems!
