16 Reasons I Will Need My Family To Be Patient When I Am Home For The Summer

I cannot express how thankful I am for giving me the opportunity to go to college and live four hours away. It allowed me to suffer, grow, go out of my comfort zone, and mature in many ways I did not see coming. My freshman year was hard in general, adjusting to a new life and surroundings is kind of hard. I got homesick sometimes, missed how easy high school was, and had to realize it is okay to make a B in a class; you cannot always be an all A student. I have met so many incredible people (cannot wait to meet more with years to come) who I consider my friends and I have found some of my best friends here. I am not looking forward to being away from my second home for three months. While I am home I want to enjoy the quality family time I missed and spend time with friends I have to catch up with. I am so thrilled summer is here, I get a short break from studying, and I can now say I have survived my freshman year of college.

1. I like to think I grew up and adulted, even though I would call you guys multiple times a week for some serious advice.

2. If you tell me something to do make sure I write it down somewhere or else I am more than likely going to forget.

3. I am going to SLEEP IN whenever possible.

I will not have an 8 a.m. class to attend so I am not going to wake up early. I am not lazy I just want to enjoy my sleep while I can.

4. I have a tendency to stay up until 3 a.m. on weekends, when you guys go to bed I will still be wide awake.

5. I do not have a set day for laundry anymore.

When I was home it used to be every Sunday or every Saturday. Since I have started school I do laundry when I run out of gym clothes and t-shirts.

6. The gym has become a part of me.

I cannot go on family outings or skip the gym for dinner. Going to the gym makes me a happy camper and makes me feel better about myself.

7. I went from living in a small town to a big city with a beach.

8. I am going to want to lay by the pool whenever possible or in the front yard and enjoy outside.

I am not going to want to go to the grocery store that is thirty minutes away because the Kroger here is right down the road.

9. Expect me to take advantage of the large televisions.

Because I have been straining my neck watching Netflix and Hulu on my laptop every weekend.

10. Prepare yourselves, I will be taking baths whenever possible.

I have been in a dorm room where a bath is not an option and I can not express how much I miss relaxing bubble baths.

11. Do not talk to me in the morning until I have had my coffee.

My addiction and dependency have gotten much worse in college.

12. I used to be your little girl who always dressed up and looked nice in public.

Now I look like I have rolled straight out of bed when I go in public. I do not even have a problem going to places in pajamas pants.

13. HATS have become my favorite accessory so do not expect to have my hair primped and done.

14. Do not get mad if I am not a fan of loading and unloading the dishwasher.

I have only had the sink and dawn soap to wash dishes and only have two dishes to wash every day (a bowl and coffee cup). I drop my dishes off every day before leaving the dining hall.

15. There has been an empty room in the house for a year that is going to be used for next three months.

Which meant one less person to cook for and one less person to have help clean. You guys have adjusted to your new ways, just as I have.

16. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO HOME COOKED MEALS!

Not going out to Mexican for family dinner or ordering a delivered pizza. I can not explain how many times I have had chips cheese and salsa this semester because I was too cheap. I want real chicken, home-cooked veggies, quiche, burger nights, the three of you and our family dinner table.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
