14 Reasons Why Morticia Addams Is My Role Model

Ever since I was young, I have enjoyed watching The Addams Family (TV: 1964-1966). This family-friendly series shows an odder and more gothic take on an American family. Two loving and doting parents, two children, and other fun familial elements, not to mention friends and other relationships! This series is about a family, and displays real issues that go on in life…well, if you’re an Addams, that is.

While there are many great qualities about this show, Morticia Addams has always stuck out to me. She is a multi-faceted character as she is sensible, supportive, and wise. Here are 14 reasons why Morticia is my role model…also, I kind of want to me her when I grow up.

1. She takes pride in her appearance

This is a woman of high-fashion. She knows how to dress her body type, as well as show off her character in her clothing. But most importantly, black.

2. She’s loyal

As a spouse, Morticia is extremely loyal to her dearest, Gomez. Her heart is entirely devoted to her husband. Talk about #marriagegoals, am I right?

3. She has a knack for interior design

Morticia knows how to decorate her house. I’d totally follow her Pinterest boards on home decor.

4. She’s talks about body image in a healthy way

Morticia understands that beauty, while it is nice, is not everything. Beauty can be found in anything and everything, but it does not give something worth.

5. She’s sensible

Sometimes life isn’t the best, it’s okay to acknowledge that.

6. She knows what she likes

The gloomier, the better.

7. Back at it with black

Whether it’s on clothes, decorations, anything, black is the way to go!

8. She offers her lived wisdom

Morticia has gleaned insight over her years and she shares her wisdom with others. Things won’t always go well in life, and that’s okay.

9. She is talented in various aspects and excels at her hobbies

I mean, just look at those moves!

10. She’s a good cook

Being able to cook is an admirable quality, and Morticia knows how to well-season a meal.

11. She is supportive and affirming

Morticia takes pride in her children’s accomplishments and affirms their efforts. Take notes, people.

12. She’s upfront with her emotions

Being upfront with your emotions is difficult, but a very helpful quality to have.

13. She’s refined in various arts

Morticia is a multi-faceted woman! And, she understands the beauty of poetry.

14. She wears pride with an air of humility

Somehow she strikes the perfect balance of pride and humility, maybe one day I’ll get that right. *Probably not*

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
