In high school, we are told that college professors are more serious than high school teachers. Our teachers told us that in college, our professors would be way more strict, less tolerant and that they would have high (and sometimes unrealistic) expectations of us. While there are some professors that fit into this category, most often, college professors are everything our high school teachers didn't warn us about.

1. The professor who overshares their personal life

This is the professor everyone has had at least once in their life. This happens the most on the first day of school—everything seems to be going smoothly until suddenly you go from learning why English is their favorite subject to what they're most afraid of.

2. The professor who teaches up until the last minute of class

This professor is one of the worst. If the class says on the schedule that it is exactly an hour, then you best believe that class WILL be an hour as well. It gets even worse when they call you out for trying to leave early.

3. The professor who tries to be relatable

Ah yes, the professor who wants to act as though they are the same age as the students. They try to be funny and try to "blend in" with everyone in the class. Often, this works against them, as they try to act a little too young, and just come off as cheesy.

4. The professor who only plays movies

Sometimes, this professor is exactly what you need. Other times, this is the kind of professor who makes you question why you spent hundreds of dollars on a class that doesn't teach you anything.

5. The professor who always shows up late

Showing up 10 minutes late to class can prove to be problematic for anyone. It's even worse when it's a daily thing, and the professor constantly comes into class late. It really makes you wonder, what are they doing to be so late when they have the same schedule almost every day?

6. The professor who hates everyone

This professor is hard to please. Most of the time, this professor makes it very obvious that they don't like you. They don't feel bad about showing their true colors either.

7. The professor who has too high of expectations

Every professor has high hopes for their students, but some have just a little *too* high of expectations. They expect A+ work on the first assignment, and nothing less. Ever.

8. The professor who plays favorites

This professor typically only has a few people in mind when grading. During class, they only pick on the students they like and everyone notices it. The students play along too, of course.

9. The professor who over-complicates everything

This type of professor is also one of the worst. They explain something they have spent years studying in a few minutes, and expect everyone to understand it right away. Better yet, they use big words that make the thing they are describing seem even more complex and confusing.

10. The professor who is overly happy

This professor is the worst for when you have a morning class, or just a bad day. They're so cheerful and optimistic, but instead of making everyone else happy, they just annoy everyone. It's good to be happy, but there is a limit when the room is filled with college students who are just trying to make it through another day.

11. The professor who is monotone

This professor is the worst for lecture classes—which happens to be what most professors like this teach. For some reason, a lot of professors who have large lecture classes are the most monotonous people.

12. The professor who takes out their emotions on all of the students

This professor takes everything personally, and if they're having a bad day, they want you to have one too. They don't hold anything back.

13. The professor who hates their job

These professors are fairly common as well. Although they are similar to the professors who hate everyone, these professors actually enjoy the students. They complain with the students about how terrible the subject that they're teaching is, while trying to teach it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
