We all get food delivered to us but most people don't know some of the most basic ettiquette for dealing with delivery drivers. It's not your fault, there's not a book so for those who have been in the dark it's time to be enlightened.
1. A drivers pay goes down the second they leave the store to deliver your food and they're expected to fill that gap with your tip.
2. That few dollars of delivery charge you are automatically charged is not your driver's tip. It doesn't all go to them, parts of it goes to the store to pay for the delivery system, insurance, and all kinds of other delivery related things.
3. If your delivery was wrong and something new has to be brought out and it's a second trip by a different driver you should tip them too. Yes something was wrong, but it wasn't your drivers fault and now you've just stiffed them.
4. Tip according to how much you spent even before discounts. Especially if you have a large order. If you spend 300 dollars on stuff and only tip 15 dollars that a 5 percent tip. You wouldn't do that to a wait staff but sure a delivery person is fine to screw over.
5. If you live on the edge of the delivery zone you should probably tip a smidge more.
6. Don't tip in beer they have to drive, sex is fine... just kidding.
7. Be prepared to pay. You knew half an hour ago the delivery person would be there. Have your money ready and near the door.
8. Don't steal their pens. They need those all night and normally they are personal pens, not ones provided by the store.
9. Leave the door light on so they can easily find your house and you can get your food faster.
10. Have a visible address number. Anywhere is fine on the mailbox, the curb, the house, just somewhere, anywhere to find your house.
11. Have a small order and paying with a big bill is not good. They can only have so much money on them due to security reasons and might not be able to break your bill.
12. If you call during a rush and it's running long it's not your drivers fault. We all know they drive like bats out of hell to get to your house and get back so they can deliver more stuff and make more tips, it's a rush and the kitchen is probably backed up.
13. Do NOT call one minute before close and order. Go to a 24 hour restaurant, it's not cool to make everyone wait until the delivery driver gets back to finally start closing.
