During my time in high school, I really grew a love towards towards spoken word even though I paid no mind to it before. There's just something about the flow, the words, the delivery and most important, the story, that makes it so compelling. There are a bazillion amount of spoken words out there (I recommend watching Button Poetry on YouTube) and they're all different and great. These poets are poetically and peacefully attacking issues and topics that we can relate to. Here are a few of my favorites that tackle many different topics. Honestly, I could write essays on each, but I'm gonna let the poem speak for itself...

Spoken Word Poetry...

...That is Animated

This was actually one of the first spoken words that I listened to and this is what sparked my interest in poetry. Along with Shane Koyczan's story, the animated art has a really nice flow and is visually appealing. (It's the lengthiest one)

Not going to say much, but this one is really good and will have you saying "woah."

...That is an Ode to Celebrities

Bless up. I actually came upon this poem while making this article and it really opened my eyes about DJ Khaled and told me things I along with many others didn't know.

This Spoken Word is gaining popularity every day. She literally reaches deep into Kanye's heart and life. This one is a really good one no matter how you feel about Kanye and the Kardashians.

...On Being Black

Omar gives us humor with an abundance of truth with it. Although it's 10 things he wants to say to a Black Nerd, everyone should see this one and there's a great chance one of these things resonate with you. [WARNING: Season 1 Game of Thrones SPOILER]

A bit of humor, A bit of anger and a whole lot of slang. Learn some Ebonics 101.

This one is really different, it has a few funny moments but really hits hard about the black community. I highly recommend this and I personally think this is one of Danez Smith's best spoken words.

...On Identity

Sam Rush is known as one of the gods of Spoken Word and this is about her struggling with her gender.

This is hands-down one of the MOST CREATIVE spoken words I've seen. It will have your mind blown!

...On Love

Simply what "love" is. Also, I love Sarah Kay soooooo much.

This shows Jesse's fatherly love for his daughter as he shares a spoken word to the boys who may date her one day. Uh-Oh!

Once again, I LOVE Sarah Kay, her voice, her delivery, her everything. She also has a bunch of poems on being a woman, one is called "Type Parts" and you should definitely watch that, too. This one is really amazing. It's punny, funny, but still really really deep.

Chance The Poet

Chance the God proves himself again. Although you should just watch the full video because Chance is amazing, his poem starts at 5:20.

Hopefully, you found one you enjoyed. If you found one you like, make sure to share the video with the world! Spoken Words have been attacking societal issues all across the spectrum and it really has the power to compel someone and change their perspective on things.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
