First and foremost, let the record show that I am not a religious user of that little blue social media app known as Twitter. I check it once every few weeks when I'm busy, and every thirty seconds when I have nothing better to do, which may actually be the right way to do it. I set up an account during a fit of summer boredom, and as a voracious reader, immediately searched the site for every author I could think of. Maggie Stiefvater (@mstiefvater), the award winning author of The Scorpio Races and the Raven Cycle quartet, among others, came to mind. What I found was delightful: Ms. Stiefvater is as sharp as a tack, hilarious, badass, and one of the most real personalities on the internet. Here are just thirteen reasons why you should take some time out of your day to scroll through her Twitter feed.
1. She's brutal about her writing. The Raven Cycle opens with the future death of a main character, an inevitable fact that is repeated throughout the series. As all fan followings are bound to do, there has been extensive pleading with Stiefvater to keep that character alive.
2. Her Christmas list is full of useful things, like car parts and more car parts. Also, she calls her husband Lover on social media.
3. She lives on a Virginia farm with her children (Thing 1 and Thing 2), Lover, and a variety of livestock.
4. She's not going to take your sexist bullshit.

6. She knows her audience.
7. She made a throne out of preordered books she needed to sign.
8. There was a Birthday Datsun and the saga of said Birthday Datsun is tragic. At the time of this article, the Birthday Datsun functions, but does not Run in the way a fast car should, and is therefore useless.
9. She procrastinates just like the rest of us.
10. Even plumbing issues become entertaining when she talks about them.

11. She's self aware.
12. She has appropriate reactions to strange children in her home.
13. If you don't like her, don't follow her. In the wake of untrue accusations directed at John Green by readers on Tumblr, Stiefvater had Words for people who mistreat her and other authors on social media.
