Before your parents or roommates tell you no for the 100th time, tell them that YES you will have a dog and YES it will be a good thing. One of the best things you can do in college is have a dog. Having a dog has way more benefits than it does cons. So, to the dog-hating roommates and parents of the world, here are 13 reasons that justify getting a dog in college!

1. You have to pay attention to your schedule and manage your time.

A dog needs to go out for bathroom breaks, walks, and to play. You are going to have to manage your time so that your dog gets his or her playtime and you get to class on time

2. You have to make it a part of your budget.

Can you sacrifice some money to take care of a fur baby? It may mean less money towards going out and buying late night junk food, but it will all be worth it see how your put sits and shakes for a tasty treat from you!

3. People who have dogs are 100% more approachable.

Want to make friends? I don't know the exact statistic, but I do know that if you take a walk around campus with a dog that multiple people will come up to you asking to pet your dog. Your pup will love the affection and you might meet the peanut butter to your jelly.

4. Your sleep schedule will actually have to be a schedule.

Dogs tend to go to sleep and wake up at the same time. This means you will have to get into a routine so your dog knows what time he gets to be let out in the morning and what time he gets to lay down for bed and snuggle with you.

5. Exercise is a must!

As soon as you grab the leash, your dog will go wild! Dogs need a lot of exercise and time to run. This means you will be doing a lot of exercise in running! Start moving towards a healthier lifestyle by exercising with your pup.

6. You will be changing another living being's life!

Living in a dog shelter is probably extremely tough on animals. Your dog will constantly want to make you happy and let you know that he loves you after you rescue him from the pound! You will literally be housing, bathing, feeding, and loving someone who will appreciate it like no other.

7. You must keep your room clean.

Sometimes, dogs get a little curious. This means that you can't leave your week old Taco Bell and laundry pile on the floor or in an easy accessible place. You don't want your dog getting into your things and eating something harmful, so you will need to keep your room dog-safe.

8. It will remind you to be patient and kind.

Sometimes, especially with puppies, accidents happen. Your dog might accidentally pee in your bed from getting so excited (Yes Kardi, I am @ing you) or chew on a pair of shoes you love. You have to remember that your pup means well and that yelling and being mean will really scare them. Be patient with your pup, especially during training, and make sure they are receiving more kindness that anger.

9. Are you actually responsible?

Many people think they can manage a dog in college, but quickly realize they can't. If you can't take care of your dog make sure to find them a home that can. If you can, you are doing great things! Keep living your life and enjoying parenthood.

10. You will never feel lonely.

Dogs are a constant companion and playing with a dog has shown to reduce anxiety and lower suffering from depression. Your furbaby will make sure to make you feel loved at all times.

11. Proving your parents wrong never felt so good.

HA. You see that mom? I'm a parent and it's EASY. How's it feel to be a grandma?

12. No one appreciates you like a dog does.

When your dog goes apeshit every time you come home or offer them a back scratch, you know how much they love you! You are the hand that feeds them, that is enough to win their life-long affection.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
