Ah, Mechanicsburg. A small(ish) town in Pennsylvania that has some... interesting qualities. If you are from Mechanicsburg, I bet you can relate to all of these things.

1. There is ALWAYS construction.

It wouldn't be good ol' Mechanicsburg without a bunch of construction ALL. THE. TIME.

2. You always see people you know.

Since Mechanicsburg is pretty small, no matter where you go, you run into someone you know. It could be a friend from elementary school or an old teacher, but we always know we will end up seeing someone we know.

3. Teachers taught your parents when they were in school.

People who grew up here always seem to stay here because they love it! I know that teachers would always talk about how they had some of our parents in school years ago.

4. Sheetz is a staple.

Need gas? Sheetz. Need food? Sheetz. Want ice cream? Sheetz. Coffee? Sheetz.

5. Experience all four seasons in a week!

Here in Mechanicsburg, you can experience all of the seasons in a week! Gotta love a place where on Monday it is 82 degrees and sunny but by Wednesday it is -13 with a blizzard.

6. Rakestraw's is the best ice cream place.

Honestly, Rakestraw's is the place to go over the summer for ice cream. Their ice cream is hand made with love and deliciousness.

7. There's always police around Finkenbinder Park.

Because of all of the bad things that happened here years ago, there's always police cars around just to make sure there's nothing bad or illegal happening...

8. Everyone loves Jubilee Day, but we think it's just another day.

Mechanicsburg holds the largest 1 day street fair on the east coast! So many people travel here just for jubilee day, but us locals are used to it. Of course we will go because it's something to do, but it is nothing special to us.

9. Unless you have a car, there's nothing to do.

There really isn't anything to do unless you or your friends have a car. Unless you want to walk to Rakestraw's or one of the two parks...

10. You hung out at Capital City Mall as a kid.

Remember when we all went to Capital City Mall just to hang out? It was the middle school hang out spot, honestly. Remember begging your parents to drop you off just so you could walk around with your friends?

11. Farm show = milkshakes

When it is farm show time, we don't actually care about it. All we want are the milkshakes.

12. "Where are you from" is the most annoying question.

"Where are you from?" "In between Harrisburg and Carlisle."

13. All of us say we hate it here, but when we leave, we are dying to come back.

This is true for everyone, but especially high school kids. They complain about how much they hate it here, but as soon as they go to college, all they want to do is come back.

Mechanicsburg is a town full of love and friendship. If you aren't from here, I highly recommend you drive through or stop by. You won't regret it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
