13 Valuable Life Lessons I Learned From Watching How I Met Your Mother
Metro

I have seen all nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother on more than one occasion, and if you're a total nerd of the series like I am, you've probably realized by now that Netflix has sadly taken every single episode out of its library. However, the series is still available on Hulu, so...THANKFULLY, I still am able to re-watch it as often as I please without having to spend $90+ on Amazon for the entire DVD set. The show depicts realistic life lessons (amidst the humor) that are seriously geared toward people my age (20s and early 30s) who don't always feel they have their life altogether and in order yet. (Remember, it is okay to feel that way. You deserve the highest of fives.)

Nevertheless, here are some of those lessons I have learned:

13. Take risks...the best things in life happen outside of your comfort zone.

"If you're not scared, then you're not taking a chance...and if you're not taking a chance, then what the hell are you doing anyway?" - Ted Mosby

12. The past is the past for a reason - LEAVE IT THERE.

"But you can't just run back to the past because it's familiar. Yes, it's tempting...but it's a mistake." - Robin Scherbatsky

11. Things change, but with some effort, every chapter of life doesn't have to end.

"That's how it goes kids. The friends, neighbors, drinking buddies, and partners in crime you love so much when you're young, as the years go by, you just lose touch. You will be shocked, kids, when you discover how easy it is in life to part ways with people forever. That's why, when you find someone you want to keep around, you do something about it." - Ted Mosby

10. Don't waste the rare and important moments.

"The great moments of your life won't necessarily be the things you do, they'll also be the things that happen to you. Now, I'm not saying you can't take action to affect the outcome of your life, you have to take action, and you will. But never forget that on any day, you can step out the front door and your whole life can change forever. You see, the universe has a plan, kids, and that plan is always in motion. A butterfly flaps its wings, and it starts to rain. It's a scary thought, but it's also kind of wonderful. All these little parts of the machine constantly working, making sure that you end up exactly where you're supposed to be, exactly when you're supposed to be there. The right place at the right time." - Ted Mosby

9. Life happens.

"But that's the funny thing about destiny: it happens whether you plan it or not. It turns out I was just too close to the puzzle to see the picture that was forming." - Ted Mosby

8. Don't dwell on the past.

"You can't cling to the past. Because no matter how tightly you hold on, it's already gone." - Ted Mosby

7. It is worth it to wait for the "right" one.

"Shouldn't we hold out for the person who doesn't just tolerate our little quirks but actually kinda likes them?" - Ted Mosby

6. It is impossible to abruptly stop "loving" someone.

"If you’re looking for the word that means caring about someone beyond all rationality and wanting them to have everything they want no matter how much it destroys you, it’s love. When you love someone you just, you don’t stop...ever. Even when people roll their eyes, and call you crazy...even then - especially then. You just don’t give up. Because if I could just give up…if I could just, you know, take the whole world’s advice and move on, and find someone else...but, that wouldn’t be love. That would be some other disposable thing that is not worth fighting for. That's not what this is." - Ted Mosby

5. Not every single thing has a meaning deeper than the surface.

"You know how many signs I've gotten, that I should or shouldn't be with someone? And where has it gotten me? Maybe there aren't any signs. Maybe... maybe a locket's just a locket, and a chair's just a chair. Maybe we don't have to give meaning to every little thing. And maybe we don't... Maybe we don't need the universe to tell us what we really want. Maybe we already know that. Deep down." - Ted Mosby

4. Pick and chose your battles because not all of them are worth fighting.

"You may think your only choices are to swallow your anger or throw it in someone's face, but there's a third option: You can just let it go, and only when you do that it is really gone and you can move forward." - Ted Mosby

3. If you're going to make a mistake, make a dang good one.

"The bigger mistake would be to not make the mistake, because then you'd go your whole life not knowing if something is a mistake or not." - Lily Aldrin

Worst case scenario: If it is a bad enough mistake, your friends will just hold a surprise intervention for you.

2. Life's moments are what you make of them.

"Sometimes hours can feel like minutes, and sometimes a single second can last a lifetime." - Ted Mosby

1.) Live life one day at a time.

"Because sometimes, even if you know how something's going to end, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the ride." - Ted Mosby

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
