For anyone who has watched the classic How I Met Your Mother everyone knows that the show gives some great life lessons that we can all take to heart no matter where we are in life.

As I near the end of my first year of college I can see how these lessons can apply to so many more aspects of my life, including socially and academically. College puts you through a whirlwind of things happening and changing so fast, it can be hard to keep up with it all. That's where the following list of life lessons comes into play, these can all be applied to anybody at any point of their life, and it just so happens right now they are really helpful to me in college.

1. Don't chase after what doesn't work

Stop wasting energy on things that obviously aren't meant to happen.

2. Things happen for a reason

There is a plan for all of us, and it will work out exactly how it is supposed to in do time, just be patient.

3. Nothing good happens after 2am

Just go to bed, you need the sleep more than you think you do.

4. Miracles happen

They happen every day all around us, big and small, open up your eyes and live life to the full.

5. Don't ever give up crazy times with friends

No matter how much you think you need to study for hours on end to get the good grade, you do not need it as much as you need some good laughs with your best friends. Balance is key here.

6. Wait for it

So many great things will come your way when you need them, not always when you want them, but they are on their way. Its gonna be legen-wait for it-dary.

7. Some people have expiration dates

Not everyone you met the first week of college is there to stay in your life, and that is totally okay. Not everyone we meet is meant to make a lasting impact on our lives.

8. Don't postpone joy

Stop moping over that one bad grade (also a B is not a bad grade so calm down), or stop worrying about what everyone has to say. There are so many amazing things happening around us every day that we don't get to enjoy because we are too busy wallowing in self-pity. Having joy is one of the best things we do.

9. Important moments shouldn't be wasted

Don't waste that time with friends on your phone or arguing about something dumb. The best memories come and go in the blink of an eye, so take advantage of them while you can.

10. Perfect isn't always perfect

What I see as perfect won't be the same as what is perfect to someone else, but that is okay. We all have amazing differences that we should be embracing and learning from.

11. Some people are worth a lot to keep around

Keep the good ones close!! You need those people who would drop anything for you, more than you may want to believe.

12. Be clear about what you say

Don't leave anything unsaid or said incorrectly. Be intentional with what you say to people, and really mean what you say. Don't tell people what they want to hear, just be you.

13. The most important people in your life are the ones you can picture yourself sitting on a back porch with

The porch test never fails, and you will know these people when you meet them. Once you find them, keep them close, you're gonna need them.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
