Have you ever played The Sims? This should be a trick question, unless you don’t like creating a life that is different and potentially more exciting than yours.
The Sims is a fun way to work on building houses, creating characters, and making a story that is unpredictable at times. As an aspiring author, I especially enjoy this game because it allows me to fuel my creativity. Over the years, I have played a number of Sims games, and with that have made a number of crazy situations with my characters. Throughout all of the madness, however, I have learned a number of important lessons that I have taken with me in life.
1. Making money is as simple as just entering a cheat.
Forget working for a living! Motherlode is one of the most beneficial words you can ever type.
2. Actually having to fix things is very exhausting, but necessary.
I once had a Sim unclog the same toilet twice in the same day. He did it, but made it clear he wanted to hire a repairman next time. Talk about a relatable situation.
3. A swimming pool is one of the most dangerous things in life.
Especially when the ladder suddenly disappears! I hate when that happens.
4. Cheating is OK, and even desirable for some.
Just don’t let your other partner(s) find out.
5. Have smoke alarms, and lots of them.
House fires are more common than you think.
6. How to take care of infants.
Put it on the floor, in a fish tank, or even in the middle of a fire. Just make sure you feed it every once in a while!
7. Falling asleep is easy.
Just crawl into bed and close your eyes! Insomnia isn’t a problem to worry about!
8. How easy it is to make friends.
Just play chess with them or sit in a hot tub for hours!
9. Similarly, how easy it is to fall in love.
Talk, flirt, talk, hug, kiss, make out, talk, propose. You’ll have a mate for life this way!
10. How to cheat death.
Just don’t die unless you have a family member or friend there to bargain with the Grim Reaper!
11. Always have time-management skills.
Take your showers at least two hours before you have to leave for work or school and MAYBE you’ll have enough time to have breakfast before you have to go.
12. Pay attention to your needs.
You don’t want to pee your pants or pass out in your dinner while eating.
13. Most importantly, always follow your dreams.
Even if it means getting in a fight or sleeping with multiple partners.
With all of these lessons I have learned throughout my years of playing The Sims, I feel a lot more able to go out in the world and to take care of myself. Thanks, Electronic Arts, for providing such an educational game!
