"It's not a phase, Mom!"

Whether we admit to it or not, we all had an embarrassing middle school phase. For a lot of kids it was trying to be edgy emos. You wore too much eyeliner, a lot of black, and listened to weird music. Chances are, you still remember those years clear as day (and probably cringe at them too). Here's the 13 things any former emo kid knows to be true:

1. You cried on March 22, 2013, when My Chemical Romance broke up

Let's be real, it totally broke your heart when you read their goodbye letter, but like they told us during The Black Parade era: "We'll carry on!" Except on the anniversary of the breakup. Then you're probably a mess.

2. The Fall Out Boy hiatus was a lot to handle

It was tough, but you got through it! With all the new stuff they've done, it's easy to forgive them for the breakup. Now let's just hope they never leave us again...

3. You tried convincing your parents to let you have hair like Haley Williams

Even though they kept saying no, you were certain you could have pink hair like her, or red, or green, or orange, or...

4. Taylor Momsen's makeup was #goals

So. Much. Black. Why did we think looking like a panda was cool?

5. You were unreasonably defensive when people left the ! out of Panic! At The Disco

Not sure why it was that big of a deal, but for some reason it bothered you when people left out the exclamation point. I guess it just show who the ~true emos~ were.

6. Blingee and MySpace went hand-in-hand

There's no better way to show off your looks than with some obnoxious gifs on a picture! It's all horribly edited, but, at the time, you never looked better.

7. You secretly wanted to be a vampire

There was something about Twilight that made you want sparkly skin and a set of fangs. You probably read the books at least 4 times and saw the movie about 75 times, so it's like you were almost one of the Cullens anyways.

8. Meeting band members is almost life-changing

Most of us have called band members "heroes" at some point, so getting to meet them is a huge deal. This is me meeting Frank Iero (My Chemical Romance) in November of 2015. I waited eight years for that moment and may or may not have cried...

9. Music magazines were all that you read

They were also a great source for band posters, which inevitably got plastered all over your walls. Kerrang! and Alt Press are the only reliable sources on band rumors too, never trust the internet.

10. Jack Skellington was the mascot for emo kids

What better than a cartoon-y skeleton who is obsessed with making everything about Halloween? Sounds like any other emo kid to me.

11. You loved every second in a band tee

Your closest was (and maybe still is) full of band tees, and every single moment of your life was spent in them. It's probably all your Christmas and birthday wish list consisted of.

12. It's good you were too young for tattoos at the time

Being a young emo, your tattoo ideas were probably pretty embarrassing. It's for the best that the age to get inked is 18+, because there is a very good chance you'd be covered in regrettable band logos.

13. You'll always be an emo at heart

Deep down, that opening G note of "Welcome to the Black Parade" by MCR still gets to you. You'll never forget what it was like to have embarrassing obsessions and a weird fashion sense. Some days you might even miss it because you will always be an emo kid.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
