According to expandedramblings.com, as of April 2017, there were about 85.8 million iPhones in use in the United States. That's a lot of iPhones! While it's nowhere near the 323.1 million population in the United States, per the Census Bureau, about 1 in every 4 people in the United States owns an iPhone. Additionally, according to problogbooster.com, iOS is the second-most popular operating system behind Android. But the iPhone is still great and so is its operating system.
However, as a student at Bowling Green State University, here are some of the apps that you absolutely need to have.
1. Canvas
Almost all of the classes at Bowling Green State University use Canvas as the main domain to share documents regarding courses, exams, and homework assignments. Find it from the ease of looking at your phone. Canvas is used across a variety of universities, so you can choose the one that you go to and log in using your university email. This is also where you'd turn in assignments if the professor asks you to submit any assignments electronically.
2. OrgSync
OrgSync is a great way for you to keep track of any meetings as well as events to go to for your major, your fraternity/sorority, or any extracurricular groups that you are a part of. Just like with Canvas, you can find the university you go to and use your university email to log in.
3. Google Docs
If you're a college student, you're likely going to have a lot of papers to write over the course of four years. Almost every one of you has a laptop, or phone, or both, but if you have an iPhone, specifically, having Google Docs will save you plenty of time. You can write your paper on Google Docs straight from your iPhone. You can format it as you need to as well, and if you're able to ask for feedback, you can share the document with your teaching assistant.
4. LinkedIn
In regards to your future, and when you start working full-time, you'll want to stay connected as much as possible. Building the network is important, and many of your colleagues use LinkedIn, so it's a great idea to have it. You can message other people in it, add them to your network, and even share details about your work, what you do, and what experience you might have.
5. Amazon
You probably love to go shopping and buy things online, so where else would you go? Also, there is Amazon Prime, which you can use to watch videos and your favorite shows and movies, so if you don't have Netflix, you can use Amazon Prime. But Amazon is arguably the largest online database and store in the world, and it has almost anything that you'd want. What's not to love about that?
6. YouTube
Save yourself a few seconds from typing 'www.youtube.com' and instead just open the app on your phone. From there you can watch whatever you want on it and it keeps a record of the sequence you've followed.
7. Facebook
Facebook is a great way to stay in contact with your friends, to see what they're up to, and it's a great way to share personal memories, chat with other people, or even watch multimedia content.
8. Instagram
I'm channeling my hipster self here, but Instagram is still quite popular even though its inception was more than 6 years ago. Consider an app like Pokemon Go, which only really had relevancy for a year. However, you most likely LOVE pictures, so why not use IG?
9. Twitter
Some of you love to post on social media, especially little bits at a time, so Twitter is perfect for you. When it limits each post to 140 characters or less, that's where you thrive. Keep it simple, stupid.
10. The app for your bank account
No matter how much or little you spend, and regardless of where your money comes from, be sure to deposit it into your bank account so you don't lose it. And if you have a bank card that you use for daily spending, make sure you know how much is in your balance so you don't overdraft.
11. Email application of your choice
Ideally this is the email domain you use most, such as Outlook, Gmail, or Yahoo, but regardless of what it is, it's a great idea to have the app for it on your phone. When you're not able to access a computer, having access to email while away from the computer is a huge bonus.
12. An additional web browser
Safari is the default web browser that comes with the iPhone, but there are other neat ones too, such as Chrome or Firefox. For some websites that you access away from the phone, a different browser may be better.
13. Your favorite mobile game (that doesn't require reception)
There are times that you won't have access to Wi-Fi or be in cell phone range, so having a mobile game that you like without the need to use data or internet is really handy. I have Flow on my iPhone, so I'm able to play that anytime I want to.
