12 Things To Do When You're Grounded

As teenagers, we've all been grounded before. It can suck not being allowed to hang out with your friends for the weekend; however, there are some beneficial things you can do instead of wilting away in your bedroom...

1. Watch a Neflix documentary

Netflix has a wide array of notable documentaries. Yesterday, I watched the one about the Amanda Knox case. It was done very, very well, and I highly recommend. Next I plan on watching Making a Murderer and 13TH.

2. Finish your homework

Last night, I sat at my desk and read through the Princeton Review's AP US History chapters. Then I finished my long overdue homework from that class, completed Friday's homework, and even cranked out an essay due Monday. Needless to say, I felt very accomplished for being so productive on a Saturday night.

3. Clean your room

It's about time you put away those dirty socks from under your bed and throw out the 14 plastic water bottles tossed all over your room. Folding my freshly done laundry is my last and favorite touch in having a clean room. Having a clean room makes it easier to sleep; I'm serious, I think that was scientifically proven or something.

4. Take a shower

Honestly there's nothing like taking a long hot shower and feeling so energized and fresh afterwards.

5. Donate your old clothes.

'Tis the season. This time of the year is best for cleaning out your closet and donating what you don't need anymore. It's a good deed and keeps your closet clean!

6. Make dinner

I'm not much of a cook, but sometimes it can be fun making enchiladas or a lasagna. Plus it'll help you prepare for living alone in the future. Not to mention that food honestly tastes better when you make it yourself.

7. Bake cookies

Again, 'tis the season!! Nothing says the holiday season than baking a batch of chocolate chip cookies with your sibling! The vanilla aroma floating around your home and the satisfaction of your stomach will make the mess worth it.

8. Study for the SAT

Lol JK, who am I kidding?

9. Workout

HAHA yeah right. Keep eating those chocolate chip cookies.

10. Start a journal

It's never too late to start! Keeping a journal helps me put my thoughts down on paper, and see my mental progession over the years. It's amazing to see how far I've come and the changes in my life since freshman year.

11. Look up Black Friday deals

Black Friday is less than a week away, and if you plan on doing some major damage this year, make sure you're prepared! Find the best buys of the season, and don't settle for anything less. NerdWallet has a great overview of a bunch of different deals at various stores.

12. Take a nap

And if all else fails, take a nap because you deserve it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
