Being a barista at Starbucks is awesome...most of the time. However, there are certain things that set every barista off. Here are some things to avoid next time you find yourself ordering at your local Starbs in order to keep your barista happy:
1. Referring to the sizes as "small", "medium", and "large."
The sizes aren't that hard to learn. If it's your first time in Starbucks, we'll cut you some slack, but if you come in every day? Yeah, you should know them.
2. Informing us that you ordered your drink "thirty minutes ago" when, in fact, it has been much less than that.
We know when you ordered--we're the ones who took it.
3. Ordering a drink but never specifying the size.
We literally cannot begin writing your order or plugging it into the register until you tell us the size.
4. Scanning your Starbucks app before we're ready.
There's a button that has to be pushed first!
5. Prefacing your order with "I'm sorry, I'm going to to be difficult" or "This is going to be a big order."
This makes every barista's stomach drop. Just rip off the bandaid.
6. Asking if you can switch the things that come on the sandwiches.
They come pre-packaged...
7. Asking us about your drink when you can physically see how long the drink line is.
When the line is all the way down the counter, you should have an idea of how busy we are. I promise, we're doing the best we can.
8. Telling us you want to reload your Starbucks rewards card AFTER we type your order into the computer.
We have to ring it up as a separate order so you can get your rewards. Lead with that, if you want to reload your card and then use it.
9. Expecting us to know the recipes on the "secret menu."
We already have a million recipes floating around in our head from the official menu. We don't have a clue about the plethora of "secret menu" items the internet has concocted. Yes, we can make them, but please tell us what is in them first!
10. Getting angry when we charge you extra for syrups or types of milk.
It's what we're supposed to do.
11. Not hanging up the phone when you order.
Or having a conversation while ordering. A. It is rude. B. It is hard to communicate with you as a customer when you're in the middle of a sentence directed to someone else.
12. Ordering an iced hot chocolate.
You mean chocolate milk?
