I encourage everyone to give dancing a try because it can be the most fun that you can get out listening to music. The Box Step Waltz with a partner might be good for starters. I could say at a couple points of my life that my amateur ways have soothe me, move me and heal me at the right song and timing. Dancing has pulled me out of my comfort zone since I was 12 years old, so here are 12 songs that stuck me to a "moving" zone:
1. "I Wanna Rock" - Twisted Sister
I bang my head to this, but not too much. I would go slightly at parts of the chorus.
2. "Good Time" - Alan Jackson
Hearing this song on a Friday night felt the best when you work every week from Monday to Friday. It brings me back to my first 40-hour-a-week job of attending and gardening a cemetery. Dirty, hard working stress can have its leftovers to shake off with line-dancing.
3. "Party Rock Anthem" - LMFAO
My all-time high school jam use to put me on the spotlight at every dance and at two proms. I've impressed everyone to think that I had little practice when I had it look like "everyday I'm shuffling."
4. "All Shock Up" - Elvis Presley
Have you ever gotten nervous of being around your crush that only need the space for your smoothest moves? I like to think Elvis had that problem.
5. "Don't Stop Believing"- Journey
This song isn't exactly for a slow dance with your significant other, but maybe at a faster pace.
6. "Cotton Eye Joe" - Rednex
Back in fifth grade, I took part in this square-dancing skit to "Cotton Eye Joe" for my elementary school's country-western theme concert.
7. "Twist and Shout" - The Beatles
I'll just keep dreaming about myself pulling a Ferris Bueller, meaning jumping onto a float and lip sync?
8. "Monster" - Skillet
I believe air guitar counts as a move. For alternative rock like this, a musician would have to give out an emotional performance.
9. "Footloose" - Kenny Loggins
Most people might prefer the classic version than Blake Shelton's version, but it makes no difference to me. The song really gets my feet moving like how the opening of the movie does to some other pairs of feet.
10. "Boom Shack-A-Lak" - Apache Indian
After watching "Dumb and Dumber" a couple of times, I swerve my hips and legs to this.
11. "Get Rhythm" - Johnny Cash
The most underrated Johnny Cash song explains so well on how dancing makes me think less of my worries.
12. "Better When I'm Dancin'" - Meghan Trainor
What made "The Peanuts Movie" so refining for the next generation was this song making children dance to feel better about themselves. The lyrics speak for itself.
