As your local television connoisseur, it is my duty to tell you that the life of a TV addict is stressful. Forget midterms—the real problem is finding the time to watch your shows in between all of that pesky studying. As the years have gone by, I have fallen further into the black hole that is primetime television. There may not be any hope for me left, but you still have a chance to end the cycle before it begins. Without further ado, here are 12 telltale signs that you might be a TV addict.
1. You have a list of every show you watch.
You don’t know true struggle until you forget which day it is and end up channel surfing for the shows that are actually on.
2. You sometimes even have to dedicate at least three hours to getting through all of your shows at night.
If you know I have more than one show on, don’t expect me to leave the couch.
3. Netflix is the holy grail of websites.
Bored? Netflix. Lazy? Netflix. Procrastinating? Netflix. It’s your go-to for literally every scenario.
4. Every night, you have to pick a show to be sacrificed.
When three of your shows all air at the same time, one of them just has to go.
5. Streaming your shows online is second nature.
At this point in the semester, it’s not a true college meal if my roommate and I don’t have our recently missed shows set to full screen on our laptops.
6. Adblock is your favorite internet extension.
…Until you realize that these network websites are getting smarter and don’t allow the show to play unless you remove it. We’ve got to figure out another way around the system.
7. Finale season is the saddest time of your life.
Every season finale that airs is just a reminder that the next three months are going to be filled with empty TV schedules.
8. And premiere season fills you with joy.
The best part of premiere season is the fact that all of your favorite shows come back on the air all at once.
9. ComicCon is your favorite event of the year.
Even though you will probably never attend ComicCon yourself, it’s still fun to watch all of the interviews and pretend that you were actually there.
10. You get way too excited when your friends start watching your shows.
You tell them that you’re watching every episode with them, but in reality you’re just planning on watching their reactions.
11. You’ve even skipped events to watch a show.
If you haven’t come up with an excuse to lie on your couch and veg out in front of the TV, you’re not living.
12. The amount of TV you watch sometimes concerns you.
Honestly, it’s probably not the best idea to watch this much TV. But who’s going to stop me?
