10 Places In Europe You Must Visit This Summer

Picture this. Amazing architecture dating back to the reign of the Romans, West meets East culture, breathtaking views of the crystal clear blue sea and walkable cities full of various cafes and restaurants. You’ve just pictured places like Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro. Welcome to Eastern Europe, the lesser-known vacation spots you can visit this summer. And the best news of all is that Eastern Europe is much cheaper than its other half. Here is a list of places that won't break your bank account.

1. Bosnia and Herzegovina

The largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the capital, Sarajevo. Known for their various mosques and cultural landmarks, this is the place to be to get your fill of the Balkan culture.

2. Belarus

If parks are your kind of thing to visit when traveling, Minsk is the place to be. It has many parks located in the capital and it's pretty affordable as well.

3. Czech Republic

Ahhh Prague. The city is known for its beautiful landscape and rich history. History buffs, this is the city for you. Forget going to Rome and instead check out Prague, you'll get more for your money and they say the food is great as well.

4. Croatia

I cheated a little and put Croatia on this list twice but for good reason. For one, it's the filming site of "Game of Thrones" and those beautiful cliffs overlooking the Adriatic Sea are an added bonus. If lounging on the beach is your idea of a perfect summer, look no further than Dubrovnik. Zagreb also has the world's quirkiest museum called "The Museum of Broken Relationships," which is dedicated to those failed relationships. Sign me up!

5. Estonia

The capital city of Estonia, Tallinn, reminds me of an old Medieval town.

6. Hungary

The "bath house country of East Europe." Hungary has one of the largest thermal-water reserves in the world. And the citizens take advantage of that.

7. Latvia

Riga, Latvia is another city with that old Medieval town feel. Their Old Town is pedestrian-only, so none of that getting run over by locals for you on this trip!

8. Romania

Legend of the vampire ring a bell to you? Well before "Vampire Diaries" and "Twilight" were ever written, there was Count Dracula. While visiting the capital of Bucharest, you can go on vampire tours and visit the "Dracula Vampire Pub" while you're in town.

9. Slovenia

If you're the type of traveler who enjoys the more laid back style, the city of Ljubljana is perfect. It's got charm, breathtaking buildings dating back to the Baroque and Habsburg, and beautiful castles.

10. Montenegro

Saving the best for last. Montenegro is a country on the coast with pristine beaches, walkable cities, and even a old fortress city. Even though it's the most expensive country on my list, don't let that stop you from visiting this paradise.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
