Ahh California. The Golden State. The state where if you are a resident, you will always answer the obnoxious question "have you ever seen a celebrity?" from those ignorant folk not #blessed enough to live there. When I visited my best friend over spring break, I felt like a new person. I had a skip in my step, the ocean breeze through my hair, the sunshine, the Mexican food... it all lifted me up. Why was it that I simply felt happier on the West Coast!? I began to make a lot of observations to try to find the answer as someone who lives on the East Coast and noticed a couple differences... anyone who has visited the West Coast feels me when I say:
1. Everyone appears super friendly in comparison to the people on the east coast
2. Or everyone is just really good at acting and faking it successfully but still... kudos.
3. Two words: MEXICAN FOOD.
It's the real deal. It's definitely the most quality drunk food you're gonna get for a bargain. Forget going to McDonald's - you're going to get some dank quesadillas that make Taco Bell look like the disgrace it truly is. As an East-Coaster, you start feeling deprived that we don't put french fries in our burritos like they do and our breakfasts don't consist of tortilla chips, guacamole, and eggs with a bunch of other delicious stuff mixed in (i.e. delicious chorizo).
4. Acai Bowls and avocados are a way of life. You can live off of both.
5. East Coasters forget Thirsty Thursday... Tuesday should be incorporated into the weekend because Taco Tuesday is a THING.
Go out and get cheap margaritas and Mexican food by only the second day of the week? Yes, please.
6. There are no mosquitoes.
7. There is no humidity.
8. Everything is pretty. Perfect scenery is everywhere. Every location has an Instagram-worthy view.
9. The weather is always nice.
Whether it's hot or cool, with the nice breeze it's never uncomfortable. Ever.
10. Because the weather is perfect year-round, everyone seems fit.
People have more opportunity to stay active. Do outside yoga on the beach, go surfing, go running, go swimming, etc. all. year. round.
11. Palm trees. Nice landscape. Stucco and red tile roofs.
You feel like you're in paradise. Nothing looks dumpy. Not to mention the freeways (not highways as we call them) are CLEAN.
12. The topic of conversation is always what you like to do for fun rather than your job title. People identify more with their hobbies than how they make a living.
And last but certainly not least:
13. Alcohol is served much later and in grocery stores?! CVS?! Gas stations?!
Pinch me I must be dreaming.
