12 Comments You Shouldn't Make About My Makeup

If you don't love makeup, I probably don't want to hear it.

12 Comments You Shouldn't Make About My Makeup

I wish I could say I have not heard each one of these comments on multiple occasions. If you wear a lot of makeup, I'm sure you can relate. If you don't— please use this as a guide of what not to say to someone who does.

1. "You look so different without makeup on."

I know this— therefore you don't need to tell me. I never once thought that my winged eyeliner, pink eyelids, and dark red lipstick looked natural. Makeup is expensive and I wouldn't spend $40 on a foundation if it left my face looking the same.

2. "Don't you ever get tired of spending so much money on makeup?"

Not really. One time I went to Ulta for Shampoo and left with two Urban Decay liquid eyeliners, a NYX contour stick, a Too Faced matte lipstick, a blending sponge, and a new setting spray. When I got home and realized I forgot to actually buy shampoo— I still wasn't mad.

3. "I would never spend that much money on makeup."

Well, I would and I most likely did. You probably spend your money on things that I would never spend my money on also; we have different interests. I'm not quite sure why non-makeup lovers feel the need to make this comment. I can probably tell by your makeup or lack-there of that you do not spend your money on makeup.

4. "Why does it take you so long to do your makeup?"

Do you know how long it takes to wing my eyeliner alone?

5. "You look so much better without makeup."

To be honest, I don't care. I know you're trying to be nice with this comment, but it will not make me wear makeup less frequently. I'd prefer you acknowledge how much I love it, and instead tell me my eyebrows look great.

6. "You wear too much makeup."

Oh I'm sorry, does this bother you? Do you feel personally victimized by the five different colors I blended on my eyelids? Does my highlighter blind you? Is my winged eyeliner too sharp for you? Are you bothered that my lipstick is as dark as my soul?

7. "Who are you trying to impress?"

Me, myself and I. That is all.

8. "Guys don't think it's attractive when a girl wears that much makeup."

Refer to number seven on this one. I wear my makeup because I like to, not because I'm trying to impress anybody. A guy doesn't like the makeup I wear? He's probably easier to replace than all of the makeup on my vanity :-)

9. "You have too many mascaras and eyeliners."

Believe it or not, they are all different and beautiful in different ways. Some days "Better than Sex" mascara looks better with my eye shadow than my Kiko mascara does, and vice versa. Sometimes I prefer to draw my eyeliner on with liquid eyeliner and other days I prefer a gel liner. There are differences.

10. "So many of your lipsticks are the same."

Pink lipstick is not just pink lipstick. 'Snob' and 'Saint Germain' are very different. Also, don't you dare try to tell me that every nude lipstick is the same, because you're wrong. I have three different black lipsticks but one is a regular matte lipstick, another is liquid matte, and lastly a metallic matte. They may all look the same to you, but don't be mistaken.

11. "We're just going to _____. You don't need to wear any/that much makeup."

We could only be going to the mall for two hours and there is still a 75 percent chance I'm going to wear makeup. To be honest, I don't care if we're going to the super market. If I want my eyeliner to be winged and my face to be contoured to walk through the bread aisle, then that's how it's going to be.

12. "You have too much makeup."

You're wrong. You can never have too much.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
