It can be easy for us to get down during the winter. The harsh weather and the bitter cold can put a damper on life. Here are some fun things to do this winter that can make it a little better!

1. Buy an expensive gift for yourself.

When the holidays come around, so do the sales. Save big on an item you've been wanting all year! Whether it's a piece of jewelry or a new car, splurge on at least one gift for yourself.

2. Make your own wreath.

Wreaths are simple decorations that can add to your holiday spirit. There are a bunch of ways to personalize a wreath, and any DIY project is worthwhile.

3. Only listen to holiday music.

Any holiday music is probably the best way to get ready for this time of year. Sing along, dance, and hang up ornaments while listening!

4. Purchase a cozy sweater (preferably ugly).

Even if you don't have an Ugly Christmas Sweater party to attend, just buy one anyway. They're great conversation starters and, if they're warm, it's the best of both worlds.

5. Donate a toy or gift to charity.

The holidays can sometimes be mistaken as a time for receiving, but it can also be a time for giving! There are a lot of children and families who are not fortunate enough to provide for each other. So donate!

6. Hang up festive lights.

The spectacle of lights is mesmerizing, and in some states, there are neighborhoods that devote their time to creating an entire light show! It's a great event to go to with family and friends.

7. Attend an ice festival.

Ice festivals are becoming more popular, and it can be amazing to watch how one person can be so artistic with ice. They sometimes carve the ice into characters or animals.

8. Sit by a fire.

After shivering at the ice festival, curl up next to a fire with a cup of hot chocolate. I'm convinced that there is no better feeling.

9. Take a photoshoot.

The snow is a great setting for a holiday photoshoot. If you need a new profile picture for Facebook, now's the time to get it done.

10. Build a unique snowman.

Look back into the past and remember how fun it was to build a snowman. Embrace the kid in you and build that thing!

11. Bake holiday cookies.

There are so many holiday desserts to choose from. Baking cookies and being able to eat them afterward is so rewarding. Look up your favorite recipe and pop them in the oven.

12. Spend time with family and friends.

Being together for Christmas is one of the best parts. So many of these activities can be done with family and friends, and if you do all of these, refer back to the perfect "Elf" GIF for more!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
