You did it. You survived finals and get to enjoy an entire month of freedom. But before that, you have to make it home. The drive for some can be really long and boring. So, here are a few ways to survive the drive home.
- Treat yourself. On the way out, grab a yummy snack to prevent you from getting too hungry before you get home.
- Drink coffee or water. Coffee gives you energy. Water keeps you hydrated. Either one would be a reasonable choice.
- Dress for comfort. Some people have a longer drive home, and the last thing you’d want is to be stuck in something uncomfortable for the next several hours. Throw on a t-shirt and sweatpants and you’ll be set.
- Think about all of the fun things you’ll do over break. Whether it’s meeting up with old friends or watching a new series on Netflix, you have something to look forward to.
- Maybe drive with a buddy. Some people like to conquer the ride home with a friend.
- Have a fun jam session and sing your little heart out. You probably will have some excess stress bottled up from finals, and singing along to your favorite music definitely helps relieve some of it.
- Listen to a book on tape. If you love books, it’s a unique way to still keep yourself entertained while driving.
- Whatever you do, don’t think about school. Avoid it at all costs. You’ve just survived finals, so the last thing you need to do is worry about school when you have a month off.
- Highs and lows of the semester. Every semester seems like an emotional roller coaster, so sometimes it’s fun to recall the best (and worst) moments of the semester.
- Listen to a podcast. If you have a favorite radio talk show, you can typically find a podcast to listen to old shows that you might’ve missed during class.
- Regroup. Take some time to just enjoy the peace and quiet. You probably have been going nonstop the past couple of weeks, so take a few minutes to just regroup.
