We all know their greatest hits, from "Let It Be" and "Revolution" to "Come Together" and "Blackbird". I could go on for some time listing their most popular songs that everyone has heard of, but that would be waste of your time. So here is a short list of Beatles songs you should start listening to if you have not already. Some might consider these picks too main stream, while others will say I left a lot of under appreciated Beatles songs out. But alas, here we go . . .
1. "Rain"
This lo-fi fuzzy beauty was released on the B side of the single "Paperback Writer" in 1966. Ringo believed the single featured his best drumming, and the song has since been covered by U2 to the Grateful Dead.
2. "Dig A Pony"
Guitar. Oh beautiful guitar. "Dig A Pony" was a track on the Let It Be album that was released in 1970. Fans of the song have argued over the lyrics, some claiming there to be deeper meanings are hidden in it while others confirming suspicions that the lyrics are indeed nonsense. But it still makes for a great song to sing along and groove to.
3. "And I Love Her"
"And if you saw my love, You'd love her to". This romantic ballad was released as a single in July of 1964 and was also featured on the album A Hard Day's Night. Kurt Cobain also covered this beautiful song, though his version was not as happy sounding, a listener can hear all the emotion he puts into it.
4. "Hey Bulldog"
"You think you know me but you haven't got a clue". This happy tune just makes you want to move your shoulders. The extremely fun song is on their Yellow Submarine album from 1969 and it features wonderful bass and melodies.
5. "With A Little Help From My Friends"
Ringo sings, enough said. (This is one of the few songs that Ringo sings lead vocals).
6. "Long, Long, Long"
The quiet start welcomes a listener to some wonderful percussion. This beauty was released on their White Album in 1968 not too long after the Beatles got back from their India trip where they were studying meditation. The Indian influence is arguably heard towards the end of the song.
7. "Old Brown Shoe"
"Baby, I'm in love with you, I'm so glad you came here, It won't be the same now when I'm with you". This upbeat banger is another song that just makes you want to move. Even if you aren't a hopeless romantic that loves the lyrics, the sound is something everyone can vibe with.
8. "Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except For Me and My Monkey"
One thing is for sure, listeners get to enjoy this amazing tune, now about whether the song is referring to John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono or their use of heroin, that is up for debate.
9. "Yes It Is"
Another underrated beautifully slow jam, and three of the Beatles singing at the same time, count me in. The soft song is definitely one to play at the end of a long, tiring day.
10. "Real Love"
The starts of this song were made in 1979 and 1980 by John, but it was not released as a single until 1996. So it is a newer Beatles song, but it sounds just as if it came out of the 1960s or 1970s.
11. "I Am The Walrus"
"Goo goo goo joob". This is probably the most well-known song on this list or could be tied with "With A Little Help From My Friends", but this is my all time favorite Beatles song. When the Love album came out in 2006, it soon became a staple CD on our family road trips where we played this song on repeat.
