Each college campus is just like America: a gigantic melting pot. There are literally thousands of people from different states (even countries), with different backgrounds, different stories, and definitely different personalities. No two people are the same, but there are certain categories people fit into. There is no way you can be friends with every single person on your campus, but you will definitely meet many different types. These are the eleven different categories of people I have come across so far in my college career, and I am sure that I will meet more as the time goes on.
1. The person with way too much school spirit.
You can find this person at every single school-sponsored event (especially sports games) they will most likely be wearing head-to-toe merchandise from your college bookstore. Literally, if they were standing still in there, you would think they are a mannequin. Do not talk to this person after a tough loss unless you want them to take your head off. Also, if you have friends visiting from a rival school, keep them as far away from this person as possible for their own safety.
2. The over involved person.
You know that list you got when you first visited your school that named all of the clubs and organizations available? Yeah, this person is a member and/or president of every single one while doing multiple hours of community service a week. This person will most likely be seen running around campus like a crazy person, at meetings, making signs and stress crying. All at the same time, if you are friends with this person, they will mercilessly try to recruit you to join one of their million clubs until you eventually say yes and become just as stressed as they are. This person is professional multi-tasker and will most likely be a CEO someday.
3. The gym rat.
This person lives and dies by their gym routine. Oh, today is Monday? No, its leg day. If this person isn't in class, they are in the gym getting swole. This person lives in athletic clothing and doesn't wear much else. If you make them dinner, make sure you give them protein, otherwise they'll go eat somewhere else.
4. The library rat
During the week, you will hardly see this person. They are constantly studying, writing papers, curing cancer, et cetera. They work hard, but they also play hard. You will constantly be jealous of this person's work ethic, and they will make you question yourself as a serious student.
5. The preppies.
These people are dressed from head to toe in Vineyard Vines, and you wouldn't be surprised if they had the whale tattooed on their right butt cheek. Sperrys are the shoe of choice, and Vans are their kryptonite. They take great care in their style and constantly look good. The Whale is basically Jesus.
6. The drunk idiot.
OK, so everyone in college at some point fits into this category, but we all know that one person who is like this every day. This person is usually the one who stumbles around aimlessly and yells at inanimate objects. Though this person may be a little crazy, but you love to have them because they are always ready to have a good time.
7. The party girl.
This person has absolutely ZERO priorities. She's the person who will text you at 11 o'clock at night on a Monday and ask you to go out, despite her 8 a.m. midterm the next day. She can out-drink any guy and runs the pong table. But again, she is a great friend to have because she always knows where the party's at.
8. The athlete.
During the season, this person can't do anything. They are constantly at workouts, practice or a game. All this while balancing their social and academic life. Every student athlete should become a saint.
9. The smart kid who doesn't need to study.
Everyone hates this person. And if you are this person, everyone hates you. Sorry, we only hate you because we want to be you.
10. The lazy person.
This person is a human version of a house cat. They never go to class, study or do anything for that matter. The only thing they have accomplished is watching the entire series of Friends in less than two weeks. Again, we do sometimes want this person's lifestyle during the daily stress that college entails. However, eventually this person completely drops off the face of the earth, and that's because they failed out.
11. Your best friends.
Your group of friends that you meet at school may be a combination of all of these different types. That is what is so great about college, you meet so many different people and you can form friendships you never thought you would. You could meet one friend in the library, another at a party and the other one at the gym. These are the people you will remember for the rest of your life. We're all different and that's a good thing. That is what makes college so special.
