We all wanted out. We wanted to graduate high school and go to college where we'd be free. As much as we loved our parents, we wanted to be where they couldn't control our every move... But as college progresses, we hear their voices in our heads a little more frequently and realize maybe our mothers still have control of us in some ways.
1. When you're about to go outside without a coat
Nothing summons your mom's voice in the back of your head like attempting to brave the cold without a coat. I'm pretty sure parenting is 2% raising your children and 98% reminding them to wear a coat.
2. When you think about going into a test blind
"Yep, I just won't study. This is a good idea." Cue mom dropping a very passive aggressive statement about how expensive college is and how that might not be your best idea.
3. When you're trying (and failing) to make a dinner that isn't ordered pizza or Easy Mac
Either you hear her voice in your head telling you what to do, or she's laughing because you're so incapable of doing things without your mom.
4. When you need to make a doctor's appointment
Nothing makes you feel more sheltered than needing to schedule a doctor's appointment and feeling the need to text your mom to do it for you. But back-of-your-head mom will tell you exactly what you need to hear: "Oh come on, you're 21 years old make your own damn appointment."
5. When your friends are mean to you
A phone call with your mom might be what you really need, but the woman has given you enough advice about bad friends that you can practically recite it verbatim. (And you don't even need them, because your mom is your best friend anyway.)
6. When you're mean to yourself
Once again, the healing words of your mother are so engrained in your head that it's a wonder you are ever able to have a negative thought. But when you do, even without her saying a word, she can fix it.
7. When you do well on an exam
"See, I told you studying would pay off."
8. ...And when you do not so well
"See, I told you you should have studied harder."
9. When you're up until 3am on Netflix
Yes mom, I do think it is probably time for me to sleep, but I simply have to see how Annalise Keating is going to work her way out of this one. And the next one. And the next one...
10. When you're sick
This is never more present then when you just want to lay in bed and ditch all your responsibilities and there she is, saying the ever healing and kind words of, "the entire world doesn't stop just because you're sick, Sara." Ah, a mother's touch.
11. When you just need your mom

I love you, mom!
