11 Things Wisconsinites Are Proud To Love

As Wisconsinites, we like to think our world revolves around more than just beer, cheese and Green Bay Packer football. However, what could possibly be so wrong about being known for three of the best things on the planet? When a Wisconsin native loves something, they love it with a passion. And we sure are passionate about a lot of things.

1. Supper Clubs

Supper clubs may be Wisconsin's idea of "fine dining", yet we have no problem with that. If you find yourself at a Wisconsin supper club, you can look forward to a great meal, complete with a salad bar and a Brandy Old-Fashioned.

2. Going "up north"

The perfect vacation for a Wisconsinite? A quick trip up to the cottage, most likely located in northern Wisconsin, such as Eagle River or Minocqua. A weekend at the cottage means rides on the pontoon, swimming in the lake, and s'mores over the campfire at night.

3. Tailgating

It doesn't matter the weather or the sport, Wisconsinites love to tailgate. Whether it's a Packer game, Badger game or a third grade little league tournament. tailgating is a necessity.

4. Wearing camouflage regularly.

In Wisconsin, camo is not only worn in the woods during hunting season. It's seen as fashionable to some Wisconsinites and as acceptable daily clothing.

5. Listening to country music.

Some love it and some hate it, yet Wisconsin is home to a bunch of country music festivals that take place in the summertime, most of them are composed of a stage in the middle of a field but we love it.

6. Green Bay Packer Football.

Yes, we love our beloved Packers and there's no doubt in our minds that we are America's favorite team.

7. Having cookouts.

One of Wisconsin native's favorite summer traditions is firing up the grill and having friends and family over for some brats and potato salad. There's a designated "grill master", usually a dad, who takes way too much pride in his grilling, but we don't mind.

8. Going to a fish fry on Friday nights.

If you're headed out for dinner on a Friday night, chances are you're going to one of the million restaurants in Wisconsin that serves a fish special once a week, with coleslaw on the side.

9. Attending The Wisconsin State Fair.

Whether you make the trip to Milwaukee each August for the carnival rides or the deep fried food, the state fair is a favorite summer destination for many Wisconsinites.

10. Cheese.

Sometimes, we just have to accept the stereotype, because there's no one in Wisconsin who doesn't like cheese. It doesn't matter if it's the finest aged cheddar or a small order of cheese curds from Culver's. Cheese is great and there's no denying it.

11. Summerfest.

We're proud to host the world's largest music festival every summer in Milwaukee, located right near Lake Michigan.

12. Being a Wisconsinite.

Despite the stereotypes created by those not lucky enough to live in this great state, we love the precious cheese-loving, beer-drinking, football cheering state we call home.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
