11 Things To Be Thankful For

It is that time of year where everyone takes a moment to ponder what they are thankful for. The question always comes up on Thanksgiving Day: what are you thankful for? This question brings a multitude of answers from the heavy topics like good health, to the most innocent answers from a child being thankful for their new toy. We all have something to be thankful for, but here are 11 things to be thankful for in no particular order.

1. Your Parents

I am incredibly thankful for my mom and dad. I would not be where I am today without them. They have always pushed me to be the best version of myself, and I can’t thank them enough for everything they have done for me.

2. Your Siblings

We all know that siblings can drive us crazy, but there is no love that compares to that of a sibling. I am so thankful for my little sister. I wouldn’t trade being a big sister for anything in the world. She has taught me so much, and it made me realize that I have always little eyes watching my every move.

3. Your Family

I wouldn’t be who I was today without the constant support and love from my parents, sibling, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. They are always my biggest fans who I can always count on to be my loudest cheerleaders.

4. Your Best Friends

I couldn’t survive without my best friends, and I am lucky that God blessed me with the greatest best friends in the whole wide world. They are the people that I can trust with anything. I know that they will always be there for me, no matter where life takes us.

5. Education

I was lucky enough to attend an incredible high school that provided me with so many amazing opportunities. Now, I attend an incredible university that provides even bigger opportunities for me. Education is something a lot of people take for granted, but I am so thankful that I get the chance to keep learning.

6. Technology

As a college student away from home, I am so thankful for technology. Technology allows me to talk to my family and friends in my hometown, even though I am not physically there. It is also something that not everyone has access too, yet we really take it for granted sometimes.

7. Writing

I am so thankful that I can transpose my thoughts onto a piece of paper. Writing is such a release and it is the only way for me to get my emotions out. There is something beautiful about seeing the soul of somebody written down on a piece of paper.

8. Sororities/Fraternities

I am so thankful to be apart of an organization so much bigger than myself. I love feeling like I have a place where I will always belong. There is something incredible about knowing you have 300 sisters that will always have your back. I love that it is an outlet where I can make a difference in, not only my community, but also the world.

9. Your Dogs

There is something about the love between a human and their dog that can’t be explained. I am so thankful for my two cute little Yorkies. They are the best cuddle buddies, and the best remedy for a sad day.

10. Teachers

I am incredibly thankful that so many devoted teachers were placed in my path. I was lucky to have teachers that invested so much into my life and cared about my life even beyond the classroom. Great teachers are a treasure in this world.

11. Music

I am so thankful for music. Music was a major part of my life and it continues to teach me so much. I was in choir from fifth grade to my senior year of high school and I also played piano during that time. Being involved in the music program brought me many opportunities that were life changing. Music is a way to express myself when words can’t.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
