11 Things I'd Rather Be Doing

A list of things I'd rather be doing than schooling.

11 Things I'd Rather Be Doing

The semester is coming to a close here in the next four weeks for Xavier University, and that means projects, exams, presentations, homework and reading have escalated to a whole new level. Since the work load is at an all time high, here are 11 things I'd rather be doing than schooling.

1. Sleeping

What college student doesn't need sleep, am I right? The assignments are piling up and so is the stress so, what better way to relieve some stress then by going to sleep, except I can't go to sleep because I have to stay up and finish all the work that's ahead.

2. Binge-watching Netflix

We all have our guilty pleasure we love to binge watch on Netflix, whether it's "Friends," "Gossip Girl," "Grey's Anatomy," "The Office" or "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" (a few of my favorites), we're all far more interested in the lives of the characters on these shows than the obligations we have in our lives for school.

3. Hanging out with my friends

The natural thing to do is ignore homework and go hang out with your friends. I would much rather hang out with people, laughing and having a good time then working on endless amounts of work.

4. Vacationing

The weather in Ohio has been pretty crappy lately, but honestly, this one applies pretty much anytime the weather becomes bipolar.

5. Online shopping

I want to look at all the clothes that I wish I had in my closet and then add them to my cart while already thinking about the possibilities of outfits. But then laugh at the total of all the items knowing I can realistically only afford one of the 40 things in my cart.

6. Actually Shopping

Actually shopping is a great option when it comes to not doing homework. There's so many things to look at: clothes, food, people watching. It offers more than one source of entertainment.

7. Reading a book I want to read

Normally, we all hate the books we are required to read for our classes, and I know I would enjoy reading a book I wanted to read more than forcing myself to read for the sake of homework.

8. Call my best friend

I'd love to call my best friend and talk about our lives instead of doing my homework. We can catch up on what's been going since the last time we talked and probably talk about all the work we aren't doing.

9. Scroll through my social media

Of course, the number one distraction from schoolwork or anything productive is social media. I'd rather scroll through each app until I've seen everything there is to see and then constantly switch back and forth through all of them hoping new content emerges.

10. Paint my nails

Dress for success absolutely includes painting your nails. I can't be successful unless I have all the elements to dress for success. Therefore, it's necessary to paint them ASAP!

11. Pretty much anything

This point needs no picture at all because all you need to know is, there is a very long list of things I'd rather do than do all the work that's coming up in the near and distant future.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
