11 Things That Happen When Your Hometown Friends Visit Your College Town

You love your college friends, your college town, and college in general, but something just feels right when your high school friends finally visit and they get to experience the insanity that you call college. During the week leading up to this visit, you can’t contain your excitement. You begin to plan every little detail of what you will do when they’re here, although that plan will most likely fall to pieces as soon as they arrive. No matter what, a few things will inevitably happen when your hometown friends visit your college town.

1. You’ll ask your parents for money to finance the expensive weekend that you’re about to endure.

2. You take them to your staple food joints and eat the entirety of the town.

3. You finally introduce them to your infamous partners in crime, who they’ve seen in your Snapchat stories, and they instantly become friends.

4. You take them out to your favorite bars and party spots so that they can see what all the hype is about.

5. Someone inevitably hits on them (or they hit on someone) while you just stand there awkwardly.

6. You spend the majority of the time taking naps and squished in your twin bed together, despite the crazy things that you said that you’d do.

7. You take them to the apparel shop and fill their wardrobe with your school colors.

8. Your old and embarrassing high school stories are bound to come up somehow.

9. You will forget to do literally all of your schoolwork unless your friend just happens to be great at calculus and can help you with your problem set.

10. You wind up catching up for hours while your friends from college just listen without any idea of what’s going on.

11. You plan your next visit for when you can visit them.

Although it’s always difficult to leave your friends from home when it’s time to go back to school, it feels like they never left when you finally get to see them again. Having your friends visit you at college is a blessing and a curse, you get to have the time of your life with your oldest friends while simultaneously reliving all of your embarrassing stories that are brought up every 20 seconds. It’s a breath of fresh air, getting to see your high school friends, so cherish it when they come to visit. You’ll get to see them again soon after they leave and, when they do leave, praise God that you finally have your twin bed to yourself once again because they are impossible to share.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
