If you’re a girl that rocks naturally curly hair then you can relate to these daily struggles. Having curly hair is a total blessing and a curse, that’s for sure, but curly hair is pretty unique.

  1. Humidity is the enemy. Nothing can ruin curly hair faster than humidity. If you’re like me and you live in Texas then you understand that Texas heat and naturally curly hair don’t mix.
  2. Rain isn’t any better. Rain and naturally curly hair go together about as well as oil and water. Adding water to your curls does not actually fix anything, rather it adds frustration. I guess you could say weather in general is not a friend of curls.
  3. Brushing it does NOT fix it. Brush it they said, it’ll look good they said… Never listen, people that don’t have curly hair don’t understand the struggle. Brushing curls adds frizz and can cause your hair to look like you traveled through a wind tunnel. Owning a brush is a futile effort, they get stuck or break in half more than they actually brush your hair.
  4. Hair ties are a necessary part of any outfit. Whether they are around your wrist or in a purse anyone with curly hair always has a hair tie readily available. The easiest way to fix hair that isn’t cooperating is to put it up in a bun or ponytail.
  5. The amount of conditioner needed for your hair is laughable. They say the normal amount of conditioner needed per use is about the size of a quarter but if you have curly hair you know you actually need way more than that to even make your hair any kind of manageable.
  6. Getting your hair cut truly is a struggle all its own. With curly hair if you get one inch cut off prepare for it to look like about three inches shorter because as we all know curls shrink. Some hair cuts can make us cringe or even cry because of how badly the curliness is effected.
  7. Straightening your hair… how long do you have? Straightening curly hair? Haha! I hope you have about two hours because I assure you, you’ll need it. Your hair may look nicer and people may compliment you like crazy, but we all know the true effort it took to get it that way.
  8. Hair care products and broken promises. There are tons of products out there that claim that they can tame and sculpt the curls or even 24 hour humidity protection, yeah right, likely story. You can keep going with that theory but it’s not as easy as it sounds. I’ve gone through so many different products and it just doesn’t work sometimes just some hairspray and water will go a long way.
  9. People constantly asking if it’s your natural hair and wanting to touch it.. Yes, it’s natural! I was given the gift of naturally curly hair there’s nothing I can do about it. No, I’d rather you not feel or touch my hair but you’re going to anyways so, go ahead!
  10. People with naturally straight hair saying that they wish they had your hair No, no you don’t. There was a time where I couldn’t stand my curly hair I did everything to change it but you get to a point where you just need to embrace it. The curls make us unique but having curly hair and managing it isn’t as easy as it seems.
  11. Curly hair is like a box of chocolates… you never know what you’re really going to get. No matter how hard you try the curls are not all going to be the same and the hairstyle is always going to fluctuate. Your hair just isn’t going to look the same twice and you never know what exactly you’re getting until you're past the point of no return.

Having curly hair has its ups and downs but in the end we all find our ways to own it and embrace it. It’s not the easiest thing to manage but it is manageable I promise! Curl power.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
