It's finally that time of the semester again when all of your assignments pile-up, one by one. The awful time when college students are given approximately 300 assignments to complete within a two-week period. This semester I was graciously given a very lengthy essay to write. I figured I'd share with the world the stages of essay writing (or at least, the ones that I went through).
1. Break out the laptop.
This process usually starts with me procrastinating for about 30 minutes. After that, I finally open up Word to attempt to start my essay.
2. Stare at the screen for an extended period of time.
Once my laptop is open, I usually reflect for a minute or 40. If there's something else going on, I'll usually divert my attention to that.
3. Make a killer heading.
If there is one thing that I don't hesitate to jump into, it's the heading of my essay. This is great because you finally have some words on your blank computer screen.
4. Stress watch Netflix.
After all of the amount of time you've spent preparing for this, you deserve a break. Bring up a Netflix show and cautiously enjoy it. There is never a second where you feel truly relaxed while watching it, but you wouldn't want to overexert yourself by typing too much at once.
5. Grab a snack (or full meal).
You can't write an essay without brain food. Make sure to grab a snack before you get back at it. To be completely sure that you'll be adequately prepared to start finish it, you can always go all out and hit up a sit-down restaurant.
6. Do laundry.
Sure, you've only written three words for your paper, but you can't go to school the next day without clean clothes. Might as well put the paper off a little longer and wash your clothes.
7. Stress watch Netflix (Round 2).
You know the drill at this point.
8. Actually get back to typing your essay.
It's 10 o'clock, and your essay is due in two hours. This is when you realize that you haven't done much and you probably start to panic.
9. Frantically gather sources.
It's 10:40, and you've typed quite a bit, but you don't have enough sources. You hit up every link possible hoping for something that relates to your topic.
10. Finish it.
It's 11:49 and it's the home stretch. At this point, it is due or die. Finish up that essay, add a bunch of filler, and bring it home.
11. Submit.
The greatest moment of the entire process is the moment where you finally click "Submit." You're done. You're free. You never have to deal with this one particular essay again.
Now that you have finished up your assignment, you can watch Netflix, stress-free. You know what they say, stress-free Netflix is the best kind of Netflix.
