Winter break is a roller coaster of emotions. From the excitement of being home to the longing of going back to school, pretty much every college student in the country has experienced these 11 stages of winter break.
Stage 1: Pure excitement. Inexplicable joy. Unfathomable relief. You survived the semester that felt like it was never going to end. You deserve a reward.
Stage 2: Sleep. You probably got zero sleep the past week or so, and your body is officially shutting down. So catching up on sleep is an absolute necessity.
Stage 3: Relaxation. You get to enjoy all of the Netflix you didn’t get to watch throughout the semester. You have an entire month off from school, so why not binge-watch an entire series (or two) in a week.
Stage 4: Reunions. Whether it’s with family or friends from high school, you feel like you haven’t seen these people in ages, so a reunion is definitely in order.
Stage 5: Organization. You’ve taken some time to chill out, so now it’s time to regroup, refocus, and get your life back in order.
Stage 6: The New Year. We all know what this means: coming up with all of your New Year’s resolutions.
Stage 7: Super motivation. Because of Stage 6, you have all of this newfound motivation to conquer 2016. You have new academic, health, and personal goals that are just waiting to be met.
Stage 8: Longing. You’re ready to go back to college. Not necessarily “school,” but you miss your friends and the life you’ve made there.
Stage 9: Reality. You realize that this semester is going to be the hardest one yet, so now you’re freaking out.
Stage 10: Denial. Stage 9 was your reality check so now you’re denying that it’s even true. You convince yourself that it’s just a nightmare and that it’s not actually going to happen.
Stage 11: Acceptance. You can’t pretend like winter break is going to last forever. You’ve made the most of it, but now you’re realizing that it’s time to go back, see your friends, and conquer the semester. You know you can do this.
