11 Reasons Why Siblings Are the Greatest Blessing
Victoria Barone

For those who are lucky enough to experience growing up with siblings they understand what a true blessing it is to have them. Even if you find yourself wanting to strangle them, at the end of the day there is no one you love more. They are the only people you can hate and then five seconds later be laughing about something with. Here’s to all the siblings out there, these are the reasons why you fill our lives with such greatness.

1. They protect you.

Whether they are your back up during an argument with a parent or helping you with a fight via text they are always on your side. They also understand that the world is hard and they share their experiences with you. They prepare you and set you up for success.

2. They understand all your quirks.

You most likely share these quirks, which is why they understand them so well. You don’t like when people stick their hands directly in the food bag so your siblings know to pour out their individual serving. Or you know your brother will be upset if you use his specific coffee mug so you steer clear of it.

3. They support you unconditionally.

Your siblings will always be the first people to try and understand the decisions you make. All of their judgments are strictly constructive criticism to make sure realize what you are getting yourself into. They love watching you succeed and will always be on the sidelines cheering you on.

4. They are the best friends you didn't choose.

Instead of having to work at this friendship, it just occurs naturally. Yes, living together 24/7 means at some point you’re going to get annoyed with each other, but it never lasts. No one will ever understand you the way your siblings do. They practically know all your ins and outs from growing up with you.

5. They first handedly understand your family.

With your siblings you don’t have to explain the back story as to why your parents are upset with you, they already know what set them off. Also, every family party wouldn’t be the same without them to help you survive and gossip with.

6. Most of your favorite memories include them.

You’ve spent a good chunk of your life with them by your side and they have been through most, if not all experiences with you. Every family vacation they were also there to experience the beauty and relaxation with you.

7. They can make you laugh the hardest.

It is true when they say, “laughter is the best medicine." After a night with my siblings, my stomach is throbbing from laughing so hard. My smile is never as genuine as it is when I am with my siblings. You’ve created multiple inside jokes together that could be strictly used to carry out a conversation together.

8. They worry about you just as much as you worry about them.

It’s difficult growing up and going your separate ways as siblings, for however many years it has just been all of you in the same house together. You will worry about them when they are out of your sight but just know they are doing the same for you.

9. You can trust them more than anyone else.

Who better to tell your secrets to than someone who is related to you and who wouldn’t think to cross you. You have total black mail on them so you know you secret is safe or they risk one of their crazy nights being slipped to the rents.

10. They loved you during your awkward stage.

So you thought dying your hair black would be a great idea, but instead it turned into the family joke. Of course, at the time, your siblings stood by you with your decision and still showed their face with your in public. However, years later, they will never let you forget these times.

11. They are constant in your life.

With all the things that are not guaranteed to stay in your life you can always count on your siblings to be there. No matter the distance, they will always be a call away. Siblings have an unspoken pact that they will be there to answer your frantic calls or answer your random questions. Friends come and go but, family is forever.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
