11 Reasons Why Going to Chicago White Sox Games are always a fun time

Wrigley Field always gets the attention for the place to be for Chicago baseball. But I've been going to White Sox games since 2005, and I can tell you that even the average baseball fan would enjoy a day on the Chicago's South Side.

The Chicago Cubs get all of the attention when it comes to Chicago baseball. Wrigley Field is a classic sports venue which always drives in many fans. However, Chicago White Sox games can also be very fun to attend. Here are 11 reasons why you are guaranteed to rate your experience at a White Sox game at Guaranteed Rate Field as a fun day on The South Side.

The Pre-Game Intros

One thing I have always looked forward to when I am going to the White Sox games is how the stadium hypes of the fans. There is always some sort of video to get the fans excited, and that will be followed by the playing of AC/DCs Thunderstruck with fireworks to follow. The fireworks always bring excitement into the pregame because it just provides that rush of adrenalin that is needed to maintain excitement for a Major League Baseball game. There is no one song that I associate more with my experiences of going to the White Sox games than Thunderstruck. Every time I hear the song, memories of all the days I have gone out to the Sox games and it just brings up good times. In fact, people have gotten mad when ESPN forgot a statistic regarding the 2005 White Sox World Series win, and Wheel of Fortune did upset some passionate fans when they excluded White Sox from their Chicago sports teams crossword puzzle last fall. But thankfully, Wheel of Fortune made up for their mistake by having a solution to a puzzle as Chicago White Sox Fans.

The Food

Some people just do not like the food at the ballpark. But don't worry, I can assure you that you will find many great options for food at Guaranteed Rate Field. There's more than your traditional ballpark hot dogs and peanuts. Fans can also find stands with many great options for pizza, bratwursts, burgers, nachos, pretzels, and maybe even turkey legs. The dessert options of ice cream and churros are always a fan favorite. Besides your traditional popcorn, you can also find places in the park that sell Chicago style popcorn. If you are very hungry, be sure to dip into the White Sox Helmet Sundae. And the food is very good in taste as well, so you are sure to feel that you will not drive home hungry.

Themed Nights

Every year, the White Sox select certain games to be the focus of the atmosphere of the stadium for the game. Reoccurring themes that are fan favorites include Rock N Roll Night, Mullet Night, Heritage Nights, Country Music Night, as well as celebrating holidays well in advance (such as Halfway to St. Patrick's Day, halfway to Mardi Gras, even Christmas in July). Even going to the games on or near the Fourth of July are always fun. Especially if it is USA Night and fireworks after the game. But none of those promotional nights compare to the best game there is on the South Side every year.

Elvis Night is hands down, the best White Sox game you can go to all year

Elvis Night at A Chicago White Sox Game

storify.com

Yes, Elvis Night is the best White Sox game you can go to. And it is a pretty big deal among Sox fans. But this special night is more than just having Elvis music play throughout the game. Before the game, flying Elvises will land onto the field for pregame entertainment. On the scoreboard, graphics are made to edit the White Sox players hair to those of Elvis. But to put how big Elvis Night is in a perspective, there will be fans who go to this game dressed up in Elvis costumes. And there will be fireworks after the game with Elvis music in the background. This game is always on a Friday night in August, and if you want to attend Elvis Night at Guaranteed Rate Field this year, it will be held on Friday, August 17th against the Kansas City Royals.

Fireworks After Home Runs

Home runs on the South Side of Chicago are celebrated differently than some of the other ballparks. Whenever a White Sox layer hits a home run, the pinwheels on the scoreboard start spinning around, and best of all, fireworks blast through the air to provide a celebration like no other. This always excites the crowd full of White Sox fans.

Fireworks Nights

Ok, so I already explained this a little bit earlier. But for some games held on Friday or Saturday nights, there will be a fireworks show following the game played with music that goes along with the theme of the night. While I have already mentioned Elvis Night is my favorite, I did also enjoy the fireworks shows following Rock N Roll Night and USA Night as well. The breathtaking sights of the fireworks above the stadium leaves the fans cheering when walking out of the ballpark.

The People You Will Meet At The Games

Throughout my years of attending White Sox games, I have met some rather interesting people at the games. Some of these people are die hard fans that have been going to the games for many years, some are very rowdy fans, some people may have a little too much to drink, and others are just interesting people with a lot of team spirit with custom or throwback jerseys of old players.

Southpaw

The teams mascot will enhance your experience at the ballpark. Southpaw, the jolly green monster is seen dancing during points of the ballgame while other times, you can find him all around the ballpark taking pictures with fans and just making fans happy. I always hope to see Southpaw every time I go to a game because of how much spirit he provides to the team and the fans.

Sunday Games

While going to a game on any one of the seven days of the week is always going to be a fun time, Sundays at Guaranteed Rate Field have a special purpose behind it. Not only are Sunday home games called Family Sundays, but the team breaks out the old 1980's throwback uniforms for every Sunday home game on the schedule. I personally enjoy seeing these throwbacks get brought out because it shows our team history and gives fans a sense of nostalgia. But more so because I personally like the design of these 1980's uniforms (though I have absolutely nothing against the current uniform designs, I think they are very nice). Additionally, tickets can be found for cheaper prices on Sundays to incorporate the family theme of the game. Which leads me to my next point.

You can get even relatively good tickets without spending much money.

Even if your budget is rather tight, you can still make going to a White Sox game affordable. Except if the game is against the Cubs or Yankees, you can find a good amount tickets for under $30. Some of which can be found in home run alley. In fact, you can get tickets for as low as $7! That is, if you don't really care about how good your view of the stadium is.

The Team Pride And Fans

This is probably the most underrated part of the Chicago White Sox. Yes sure, the Cubs get a lot of the attention and fans. But many people don't know that there are plenty of White Sox fans who are very passionate about their team. At Lollapalooza, you will probably run into somebody who is wearing a White Sox jersey. At every major high school throughout the Chicagoland area, you will find many students who are passionate White Sox fans. Even at Sox vs. Cubs games at Wrigley, a good number of seats will be taken by those wearing black, gray, and white. In fact, I once saw a car with a license plate number of 102605 outside of the stadium. That number is symbolically used to commemorate the day the White Sox won the World Series, October 26th, 2005. So yes, you are certain to find White Sox fans all throughout the Chicago area.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
