This November will mark two years since I started my natural hair journey. It hasn't been an easy one but I am learning and growing to love my curly curls. No matter where you are in your natural hair journey, my advice to you is to embrace the change and be patient. Take good care of your hair now and soon you will see the benefits. I wrote this post to share some of my biggest frustrations as a natural. Enjoy and let me know what you think!

  1. Twisting and braiding your hair takes forever! Should I braid, or should I go to sleep?
  2. Sacrifice your sleep or deal with the consequences in the morning. If you don’t tend to your hair you’ll end up looking like this.
  3. The oh, so annoying “Can I touch your hair” question? No ma’am, you cannot! But you can look at it!
  4. “Your kids are going to have some good hair!”
  5. "Do you ever straighten your hair?" I’ve straightened my hair two times since I went natural. I don’t wear this style as often because I’ve seen my curl pattern transition from tight coils to loose and wavy curls. Next time I’ll prep my hair with a Keratin treatment and a heat protectant before I straighten it again.
  6. Praying that your curl pattern comes back after it’s been straightened.
  7. Your morning hair routine be looking like..
  8. I can’t even count how many times people have asked me this question.
  9. Random things like tree branches, bugs, and tree leaves get stuck in your hair.
  10. Let’s not even talk about the shrinkage. You can utilize different methods like the banding method to help stretch your hair for lengthier curls. My personal favorite is the lazy ponytail method. Or you can simply let your curls fall on their own. It’s up to you.
  11. "Your kids are going to have good hair!"

And last but not the least annoying natural hair question of all time…

12. “Are you mixed with anything?"

No, I’m Black. I really hate being asked this question because people make it seem like you have to be mixed to have nice hair.

Healthy hair is good hair!

What are some of your favorite aspects about being natural? What are your least favorite? Comment below.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
