2016 is your year to travel. While there are probably many places on your list of things to see, think about these less-talked about cities around the world. These smaller, yet extremely interesting places should definitely make your travel list this year.

1. Bruges, Belgium

This quaint city has been an important part of Belgium for centuries. Explore the cobbled streets, take a boat ride on the canal, or sit in one of the numerous cafés around the town square and enjoy the view.

2. Bath, England

This historic city dates back to Roman times. Explore the Roman bathhouse, take a look at the city from atop the Bath Cathedral, or wander the alleys lined with shops. Walk through the numerous museums, including the house of famous author Jane Austen.

3. Kraków, Poland

This fun city has amazing nightlife for people who are looking for a memorable night out. During the day, visit historic sites such as the Auschwitz prison camp.

4. Brittany, France

This picturesque city is set on the French coastline. There is much to enjoy here, including annual festivals and parades, stunning beaches and fresh seafood.

5. Plakais, Greek Islands

This quiet location located on the coast of Crete has pristine beaches and an amazing river walk. There is not a lot of tourism here, which allows visitors to meet and interact with the locals.

6. Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

The capital of the small country of Luxembourg has a lot of rich history. It is full of museums and art galleries and was twice named the European Capital of Culture.

7. Halong Bay, Vietnam

This beautiful bay in Vietnam offers many activities to visitors. Take a cruise through the bay and see the fishing boats at work, or kayak along the coast. Explore the caves on the mainland or take a day trip out to one of the islands.

8. Maastricht, Netherlands

For those who are looking for a relaxing trip, Maastricht is an excellent choice. With a great coffee culture and plenty of places for bike rides along the river, this city is the perfect place to unwind.

9. Taipei, Taiwan

A great mix between city life and nature, Taipei is full of fun things to do. From clubbing downtown and eating great food at the night markets, to biking by the Danshui River and hiking in the Yamingshan National Park, visitors will never be bored.

10. Aachen, Germany

This city offers year-round activities such as visits to historical sites like cathedrals and City Hall, as well as the famous Three Country Border, which allows visitors to stand on the border of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands all at once. One of Aachen’s biggest attractions is its Christmas markets, which go up every December and draw people from many different countries.

11. Chiang Mai, Thailand

While this city is not on the famous Thai beaches, it is nestled in the Thai mountains and is a cultural hub. From spas to wildlife tours to cooking classes, there is never a dull moment in this exciting city.
