If you clicked this article, you most likely know what true crime is. However, are you actually obsessed with true crime is the question. I'm not talking about being obsessed with "Law and Order SVU" or "Criminal Minds." While those shows are probably on your watch list, you tend to lean more toward shows like "Forensic Files" and "20/20." As a true crime obsessionist, you know that it is a different type of world than many can ever imagine. Therefore, you have probably found yourself experiencing one, or all, of these moments.
1. When you can't get enough true crime whether it be a podcast, movie, tv show, book or even blog post
Hi, my name is Josie and I am a true crime obsessionist.
2. When you try to explain to people how much you love true crime and they give you "the look"
Yes, I see you giving me "the look." No, I do not care. Sorry you find my love for all things true crime to be so "crazy."
3. When those same people recommend a true crime documentary/podcast that they heard about, but you have already seen it/listened to it multiple times
No, I have never heard of "Serial" or "My Favorite Murder." Who in the world is Steven Avery?
4. When someone actually recommends a true crime movie, tv show, book or podcast that you haven't heard of
OK, sorry about earlier. But for real, where can I access it, because I truly need to know.
5. When you immediately avoid all responsibilities just to lay around and learn more and more about true crime
Oh, sorry boss, I kind of got carried away re-reading "A Stranger Beside Me" for the twenty-second time. I'll be sure to pack up my desk ASAP.
6. When you think you know so much about true crime you begin to think you can solve any case
Don't even think about trying to fool me.I know all there is to know about reading case files and independent investigations.
7. But when you think that means you could probably be a pretty good perpetrator of a crime too
Do not make me mad. You will not be happy with how things end.
8. When you start to over analyze a situation and think everyone around you is a murderer
If you are secretly one of America's Most Wanted, I apologize for my previous statement. You can attempt to make me mad all you want, I probably won't do anything.
9. Then you think about all the signs you know to look for and feel better with your false sense of security
But if you are one of America's Most Wanted, I probably already know. Or at least, I have a pretty good feeling.
10. When you start to think other people might be right about you having an abnormal obsession
Maybe what I do and say with true crime aren't always appropriate. Maybe I should start to try watching Disney Channel.
11. But then you meet someone that is just as obsessed with true crime as you are and all is well again
You are the crime to my scene and I am so happy to have a friend as "crazy" as me.
