11 Lyrics From Solange's New Album That Are You

This past Friday Solange Knowles decided to invite us to have a seat at her table in order to experience what she has called, "a project on identity, empowerment, independence, grief, and healing." (God knows we need it). A Seat at the Table is Solange's third album and it is beautiful in every single way. Here are a few lyrics from tracks off the album that will motivate you, understand you, and empower you to love who you are.

1. "Don't Touch My Hair"

"Don't touch my hair
When it's the feelings I wear".....

They don't understand
What it means to me
Where we chose to go
Where we've been to know "

2. "The Glory Is In You"

"Everybody is always talking about peace, but, as long you find peace in what you doing then you successful, and that's what people don't realize. See, you got do stuff till you gotta go sleep at night. Cause the glory is in you"

3. "Cranes in the Sky"

"I tried to run it away
Thought then my head be feeling clearer
I traveled 70 states
Thought moving around [would] make me feel better"

4. "I Got So Magic, You Can Have It"

"Don't let anybody steal your magic yeah
But I got so much yall...
You can have it yeah "

5. "F.U.B.U" (For Us By Us)

"Get so much from us
Then forget us
Don't feel bad if you can't sing along
Just be glad you got the whole wide world
This us"

6. "Don't Wish Me Well"

"They say I changed
What a pity if I stayed the same
Thinking that everything is funny
But don't say that the jokes on you "

7. "Rise"

"Fall in your ways so you can crumble
Fall in your ways so you can sleep at night
Fall in your ways so you can wake up and rise

Walk in your ways so you won't crumble (so you won't crumble)
Walk in your ways so you can sleep at night
Walk in your ways so you don't wake up and rise "

8. "Weary"

"Be leery bout your place in the world
You're feeling like you're chasing the world
You're leaving not a trace in the world
But you're facing the world "

9. "Mad"

"You got the light count it all joy
You got the right to be mad
But when you carry it alone you find it only getting in the way They say you gotta let it go
Now tell 'em why you mad son
Cause doing it all ain't enough "

10. "Scales"

"You're a superstar
You're a superstar
Always shining in the night
And you're skin glowing in the moonlight "

11. "Tina Taught Me"

"It's such beauty in Black people, and it really saddens me when we're not allowed to express that pride in being Black; and that if you do then it's considered anti-white. No! You just pro-Black. And that's okay. The two don't go together. Because you celebrate Black culture does not mean that you don't like white culture; or that you putting it down. It's just taking pride " -Tina Knowles

How amazing is it to have another album that helps to explain all of the emotions you feel as a black girl? Sometimes we can't find the words to capture our experiences but A Seat at the Table does it all. Thank you, Tina Knowles for giving us Beyoncé who blessed us with Lemonade earlier this year and now Solange is keeping the fire lit. #BlackGirlMagic

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
