To ask Dave Grohl, lead singer of Foo Fighters, to come play in Cesena, Italy, 1,000 musicians came together to play "Learn To Fly," a hit from their 1999 album, "There Is Nothing Left To Lose."
The YouTube video, directed by Anita Rivaroli and Alberto Viavattene, and now with over 19 million views, features conductors, vocalists, drummers, guitarists and more, coming together to play a beautiful version of the song. All different types of people came together for this video. Just by watching it, you can feel the joy that is surrounding the field they're playing on.
One commenter said, "This one is great proof of how music can connect people--I love how they sing together in harmony, just having some fun together."
When the song concludes, there are cheers, then a man begins a speech. He begins by saying that he believes the video will be seen by a huge amount of people from all over the world. He then claims that it's actually addressed to five people and names the band members, ending with Dave Grohl. For this video, 1,000 rockers came from all over the nation, at their own expenses, for ONE Foo Fighters song.
The speaker states: "Our call is to ask you, the Foo Fighters, to come and play for us, come and play in here, give a concert to all of us in Cesena," and then has the whole group make a lot of noise for the Foo Fighters, ending with a "Foo Fighters, Foo Fighters, Foo Fighters!" repetitive chant.
After viewing the video, Dave Grohl responded with his own video, complimenting the video on its beauty, and promising to come to them soon--all in Italian. And if anyone will do it, he will, consider he recently broke his leg in the middle of a concert in Sweden, then continued the concert after he was fixed up.
It's amazing, the things that music can do for us. Even if Grohl hadn't responded to this video, it's apparent that the world did, with a very positive reaction, and it's pretty clear that this group had a blast creating it.
