Living in the South has its perks, but cold weather in the fall is not one of them. Growing up, fall meant when the temperature dropped to the low seventies, and I wasn't going to sweat to death in jeans. So, how do southerners enjoy fall when it is still eighty degrees in mid-October??
1. Buy a fall candle.
Even if it is eighty degrees outside, bring the feel of fall inside. Light a fall scented candle, like a pumpkin spice, or my favorite candied caramel pecan.
2. Go pumpkin picking!
This is a classic. I grew up taking field trips to pumpkin patches, so for me, pumpkin picking brings back childhood memories. Of course, after you pick your perfect pumpkin, carve it.
3. Carve a pumpkin.
For the non-artistic people, like myself, I always find pumpkin carving a fun activity. I love seeing the different carvings around my neighbor, whether it be a simple smiling face or a tiger paw.
4. Bake pumpkin seeds.
While getting orange slime all over your hands may not be the fun part about carving pumpkins, baking the seeds is the yummy part. All you have to do is spread the pumpkin seeds on a cooking sheet, cover with salt and melted butter, and pop in the oven for 45 minutes. And, there you have it! Yummy, crispy, pumpkin seeds.
5. Watch a Halloween movie.
The best way to get in the fall spirit is watching old movies. Disney Channel and Freeform are always playing Halloween movies when the first of October rolls around. So get yourself a blanket, pop some popcorn, and watch Hocus Pocus (a classic) or Halloweentown.
6. Make some smores.
Yes, this can be done using an oven! Smores bring back the nostalgic feeling of sitting around the campfire telling scary stories, so why not improvise a little and enjoy them while not getting eaten by mosquitos!
7. Buy some fall plants.
My favorite fall plants are yellow, red, and orange mums.Setting them on the porch of your house is the perfect place to create a warm welcome for your guests.
8. Go apple picking.
Picking apples is a great fall activity, and not only do you leave with some awesome apples, but also very cute pictures.
9. Buy a pumpkin spice latte.
This a most for almost every girl in the fall. It's fall in a cup!
10. Buy some Halloween candy and prepare for trick or treaters.
Dollar Tree and Walmart have the best deals on Halloween candy! Who doesn't love fun-sized Snickers and free candy?
And there you have it! Even though fall in the South feels like summer, all it takes is a little imagination to create a feel of a new season!
