10 Ways Pinterest Makes Adulting Easier
Pinterest Homepage

Pinterest is my biggest guilty pleasure, well next to pizza and coffee. I have pinned so many recipes, exercise plans, holiday decorations, DIY projects, and house decor. I have tried some of the recipes and DIY projects and it's pretty satisfying when it turns out looking and tasting great. But if I am only pinning this stuff and putting it off till later am I really utilizing my Pinterest boards? Not really. So, I started writing down recipes, organization lists, exercises, ways to keep a healthy lifestyle, and how to declutter. I have three different journals. Yes, three. Crazy? Maybe, but it's how I keep everything separate.Pinterest has basically helped me become a functioning adult in this crazy world. I do not think I have ever been so organized in my life but of course I'm organized in my own way. Ya know, organized chaos and I know where everything is. Here are 10 ways that Pinterest is helping my life.

1. Declutter

Pinterest is helping me declutter in so many ways. I started going through my clothes and other items to donate or try to sell. I am even picked out some t-shirts to make a quilt with to declutter my closet more. I have even looked at some minimalist lists/plans that'll come in handy. Another way that I have been decluttering is digitally. I have been going through all my emails and unsubscribing from ones that I never even look at.

2. Becoming a healthy human

Pinterest is helping me live a healthier life. Being healthy has always been my biggest downfall because ya know, I love pizza. Eating healthy is hard especially when you can't afford to eat the healthy food you want. Ever since joining CHAARG in college I love to exercise and try new things. I know I need to be healthy and Pinterest is helping me along my journey.

3. Organizing

I've always been a bit organized but different Pinterest boards are helping me become more organized I have separated all of my billing statements, paperwork from school, car paperwork, and any other paperwork that comes in the mail. I have also organized movies, books, games, clothes, and shoes.

4. Exercising

CHAARG has taught me that exercising can be fun and well worth the sweat. Exercising has become a part of me and a part of my life. Pinterest has shown me so many new ways to sweat, be happy and healthy. Now I keep a journal full of exercises for every situation and every part of my body.

5. Decoration

I've always loved to decorate my apartments. Halloween, Christmas, springtime, you name it! I have a decoration for every major holiday and every season. Lately, I have accumulated more decor than one person needs due to having an apartment meant for 2 people. I started getting rid of decor that doesn't match the others. I have one whole tote full of just Halloween and Christmas decorations. But now that I am moving, again, I want to decorate more adult like. And Pinterest is the best place for that!

6. Blogging

I have always loved writing and writing with a purpose. Pinterest has helped with my writer's block by providing lists of prompts. I have started a whole new board just for blog lists and ideas. I keep a journal, a WordPress blog and this. It's amazing what a list can do for someone with writer's block!

7. Bucket Lists

I have always kept a written bucket list and I add to it more than I cross items off. Pinterest is FULL of bucket list ideas and images of so many places that I want to see. Bucket lists are great to keep around especially when you look down and realize all the great things you have to look forward to.

8. Design

Being a VCT grad I have an interest in the design world. I started a board for all the designs I come across that I find interesting. I have explored new ways to design and have applied some of those ways to my own personal projects. Design is a huge part of my world and I look at new ideas every day on Pinterest to keep my mind fresh.

9. Photography

I am a photographer. Sports, environmental, portraits, and landscape. Sports mostly, if I'm being 100% honest. But if I want to be a successful freelancer I need to know what I'm doing in sessions. I started a board full of photography ideas for portraits and ways to keep people engaged during the session.

10. Financial Solutions

I am a shopaholic, there it is, I've said it. But I also have bills and 4 credit cards to pay off. I have started writing down all of my bills so I know when they're due, how much is due and when they get paid. It's been helping out a lot but I'm running out of money quick due to not enough hours at my jobs to pay my bills. But I know it'll get better I just have to keep up with it and Pinterest has shown me ways to save, built credit and keep money in my checking account.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
