When should you call someone or something hot, and when should you use the word beautiful instead? A lot of people seem to struggle with this.
To bluntly put it, the definition for beautiful is “having beauty; possessing qualities that give great pleasure or satisfaction to see, hear, think about, etc.; delighting the senses or mind.” On the other hand, the definition for hot is “having or giving off heat; having a high temperature.”
In case you’re still struggling or curious to learn more, look at the following examples to really learn the difference between beautiful and hot.
1. A slice of pizza looks beautiful, but its temperature is hot.
2. The sun’s elongated rays look beautiful, but feel hot on your skin.
3. A bonfire looks beautiful, but is hot to the touch (which is probably why you burnt that innocent marshmallow).
4. A lit candle looks beautiful, but the flame from its tip is hot.
5. A car that’s been sitting in the sun all day looks beautiful, but those metal seat belts inside it are hot.
6. A laptop that’s the key to all your favorite websites is definitely beautiful, but be careful of overheating it (aka getting too hot).
7. The sand on beaches is beautiful to look at and feel, unless it’s a super sunny day and the sand is just way too hot to stand on barefoot.
8. Hot chocolate is where it gets tricky.
Obviously it’s called hot chocolate, but everything about it is beautiful: its scent, its taste, and the happiness it brings you. BUT, its temperature is, well, hot. (But you should probably drink it when it’s closer to warm or else you might burn your tongue.)
9. Apple cider is beautiful in the sense of its taste and that it might bring back memories of going apple picking.
The only way it can be hot is if its temperature is warmed up.
10. That girl down the hall is beautiful.
Maybe it’s because of her eyes, or her voice, or her personality. Whatever the reason, she is beautiful. She would be hot if she was on fire, but that would be bad. So call her beautiful and buy her a fire blanket just in case. (The same goes for boys. Boys are definitely beautiful.)
Got it?
