10 Tips For Surviving College Tailgate Season

Remember: it's a marathon, not a sprint.

For us quarter system individuals, fall quarter has creeped up on us much faster than we would like. Summer has come and gone and the hectic nature of school, internships, work, and getting our lives together is now among us. But it’s okay because fall quarter means football season is back! And that means it’s tailgate time!

With that in mind, I thought I would share some of the tailgate wisdom that I have come to learn over the years.

1. It's a marathon, not a sprint

Please, please, please do not shotgun five beers as soon as you get there. Take it in strides. You will be there for hours. Relax.

2. Beware of the jungle juice

Speaking of drinking, that punch-like juice that you don't think has alcohol in it, actually does. And it has a lot to it. Do not underestimate it.

3. Prime the face

Primer will honestly be your lifesaver when trying to maintain your game day makeup. Tip: Prime your face and mix your moisturizer with your concealer. Finish your look off with a setting spray and have your makeup actually stay on your face and not on your game day crop top.

4. Bathe in sunscreen

Trust me, you do not want to wake up on Sunday morning not being able to move your arms.

5. Bring bomb food

Chick-fil-A caters trays of nuggets and chicken strips. Order at least 3.

6. Pedialyte popsicles will save your life

After drinking and being in the hot sun, there is nothing better than some frozen Pedialyte on a stick to replenish those electrolytes (wink wink).

7. Remember your Student ID

Do not forget it. Not only is it your ticket into the stadium, but you do not want to argue with the security guard that you are indeed a student after you have been drinking for hours. Not fun and he doesn't care you lost the BP game.

8. Always pee before getting to your seats

Finding seats is already half the battle. Don't screw yourself over by leaving your seat to go pee and suddenly not even remembering which side of the student section you were on.

9. Download Uber or Lyft

If you aren't feeling so hot and the bus ride back sounds worse than losing the game (or the BP game), it is always nice to have another option.

10. Enjoy yourself!

The whole reason we tailgate is for the overall game day experience and to show our Bruin pride. You can only sit in that student section for 4 years, so make it count! Have fun, cheer like crazy, and Go, Bruins!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
