1. Find some boundaries before you move in.
I sleep with a fan on EVERY night. I can't sleep without it. It's extremely important to talk to your roommate before moving in about what you do and don't want.
2. Don't turn on the light as soon as you walk into the room.
You will most likely have different schedules/sleeping patterns. I know take naps during my breaks between classes.Try to be quiet when you first walk into the the room and never turn on the light without checking to see if your roommate is sleeping.
3. But never assume she is always sleeping.
Never talk about your roommate when she's sleeping...She may be awake and hear everything you say about her!
4. Ask before you borrow.
There's nothing more annoying than coming to your room to grab something and it be gone or in the wrong place! Ask before you borrow and always put it back where you got it.
5. Don't leave dirty dishes in the room.
Old oatmeal bowls and macaroni plates is enough to make anyone cringe. Make it a habit to wash/throw away your dishes once your are finished eating. This is your roommates home too.
6. Take turns taking out the trash.
If you see the trash-can piling up, take the trash out! It only takes a few minutes. Also, make sure the trash-can always has a trash bag. No one is going to want to wash the trash-can at the end of the year.
7. Make other friends!
You need space from each other. Make other friends too. It's important you have your friends and they have theirs.
8. Invest in headphones!
Just because you want to listen to music, doesn't mean they want to.
9. Save sexy time when your roommate is not home!
If you need the room give them a heads up. No one wants to watch you have sexy time.
10. Spend quality time with each other once in awhile.
It's important to have a relationship with the person you live with... Otherwise they'll just annoy you. Spend quality time with each other. Watch a movie or grab a bite to eat.
