10 Thoughts College Students Have When Prom Pictures Go Up

It's that time of year again. The time that all of our social media pages explode with cute couple pics and awkward group shots.

Prom season is upon us! For those of us in college, that usually just means that for the next few weekends our social media pages will be flooded with adorable couple pics and the awkwardly posed group shots. Just because we're not dealing with the "Prama" (prom + drama for those of you who missed out on this fun word in high school) of buying dresses and thinking up clever ways to ask our date, we college students still have a few thoughts to share. Here are some of the things that cross our minds while creeping through the endless photos.

1. These Dresses Are Amazing

How come when I was looking for dresses all they had were basically potato sacks? Nordstrom and Macy's must have really upped their game since I was in high school. Some of these girls look runway ready. I might as well have been wearing a garbage bag to prom in comparison to some of these dresses.

2. Does My Dress Still Fit?

So maybe you loved the dress you wore to prom, maybe it's totally outdated at this point. Either way, you're curious to see if it still fits. Before you can experience the joy of squeezing into it, you first have to remember where it is.

3. Did I Look That Young?

There is no way you looked this young in high school. Some of the girls in these photos could pass for twelve-year-olds. You definitely looked more mature than that, right? At least that's what you're going to tell yourself.

4. Are These Kids Really In High School?

On the flip side of that, a few of these couples could pass as being in their mid-twenties. You don't even look older than them NOW. It must be the contouring they use. If you had known how to do that in high school, you would have looked that good too...right?

5. If I Could Go To Prom Now...

You're older. You're wiser. You have a new Naked palette and your eyeliner wings are sharp enough to kill a man. You know that if you were to go to prom today you would do it so much better than the first time.

6. What's My Prom Date Up To?

There are a few rare instances in which you still talk to your Prom date from high school (shout out to you, Matt!). But most of the time, life gets busy and you lose track of them. Looking at the newest prom photos usually leads to you Facebook creeping on the person you spent that special night with.

7. How Am I Still Friends With This Many High Schoolers?

Every year I am astonished that I still have prom photos popping up on my newsfeed. Some of us have been out of high school for four years, how do we still know people in high school? When we were freshmen in high school these kids were in fourth and fifth grade! How did we even become friends?

8. To "Like" Or Not To "Like"

Is it weird to "like" people's prom photos? I mean, you kind of know them/knew them at one time and they look super cute with their date. But does it look creepy since you're old and haven't talked to them in years? Usually you just end up clicking "like" and regretting it for the next week.

9. I Should Be Studying

Who's the expert that decided prom season should be the same as finals season? You know you should be studying for finals, but what do professors expect you to do when all of these beautifully dressed people are gracing your Facebook and Instagram pages?

10. I Wish I Could Go Back To Prom

Yes, prom can be awkward and maybe you didn't love your dress, or your shoes or maybe the DJ that only played techno music, but you still wish you could go back. Maybe you can find a lonely high school junior or senior who needs a date (I'm not recommending this, I'm just saying it's an option).

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
