Do you ever wonder what really goes on in a flight attendant's mind? How about some of the dark secrets that flight attendants are holding back? Airline stewardesses are now exposing the facts and hidden truths to what really goes down inflight. Here are 10 common thoughts that your flight attendant won't answer for you.
1. We don't all sleep with pilots.
And no, we will not join the mile-high club with you. Although it may happen during long overnight flights, it’s unfair to assume all pilots and flight attendants hook up. Usually, people feel too old and tired after a long day of flying for some fun under the sheets. There is not as much action as you think. As for the mile-high club, who even came up with that? Airplane bathrooms are too cramped and dirty to want to do anything in there. Yuck.
2. When people don't specify their coffee order.
Whether they want it black, or with cream and sugar...
The conversations usually go like this:
Flight Attendant: “Hi. Could I get you something to drink?”
Passenger: “Yes. Can I have a coffee please?”
Flight Attendant: “Sure.” [Hands passenger black coffee.]
Passenger: “Um, excuse me. Sorry. But I wanted my coffee with cream and sugar.”
Flight attendant thinks:
Why didn’t you ask that before I served the coffee?
Fact: We will automatically assume asking for simply coffee translates to black coffee. So please specify how you take your coffee before we serve it to you. [Gives flight attendant smile.]
3. We are secretly happy when you’re sleeping.
That just means one less person to serve.
4. Please be courteous of others.
Don’t clip your toenails, take your shoes off or fondle yourselves under the blankets. Yes, we have pretty much seen it all.
5. Diet Coke is a nightmare.
It takes so long to pour and the fizz takes forever to settle at 30,000 feet. It's quite the annoyance, flight attendants can literally pour two other drinks before that one Diet Coke has settled down.
6. We are not lazy flight attendants.
There is an actual rule in the airline industry that says we are not allowed to help you lift your bags into the overhead bin because it can cause injury to ourselves. Do you realize how many bags we would have to lift every day if it was required? Sorry, but we can’t.
7. If the plane doors are open, flight attendants are not getting paid.
Flight attendants get paid for “flight hours” only. Which translates into payment from the time we take off, to the time we land. This explains why some will become crazy over the P.A. system and basically yell at people to take their seats quickly so that we can get the doors shut.
9. We don't need your attitude problem.
We experience jet lag, we fly multiple times a day, we forget what day it is, we sometimes forget the city were in. The last thing we want to deal with is difficult passengers. Remember, we are the ones you would have to depend on during an emergency. We are trained to get people out of a plane in 90 seconds or less. Do not get on our bad side.
10. Anything that happens outside of the airplane is not our problem.
We have no idea whom you gave your bags to or how the gate agent messed up your seating arrangement. We only know and care about what goes on inside of our plane.
However, Don't get us wrong. We do love what we do in the air and that's why we somehow manage to put up with it all.
